Mishandled baggage

Is there anything that can be done in regard to this? Recently came back from Thailand and we had two wakeboards in proper travel bags, but I always add extra padding just in case. They always go as oversized baggage. When we got them back home, one bags had had it's zip ripped open - broken. Plus there's a hole in my board bag and my board in quite badly dinged - it's obviously been dropped!

Any help or advice would be great.

TIA

I had a similar situation and was advised that any oversized baggage is accepted by the airline with no responsibility. I was able to claim on my travel insurance once I could show that no compensation was provided by the airline or airport. One of the requisites however was that I lodge the claim within 48 hours of the flight.

Will your travel insurance cover it? Probably not.

I could be wrong, but I think you have to make the complaint / report before leaving the airport. Really? I didn't notice till we got home, having waited for 40 minutes for the bags to come through.
