Ladies, I'm looking for some nice headscarves/ hijabs, i would like them to have some modern print and good fabric, not like the shiny silky full of sparkle ones you see in abaya shops which unfortunately only match abayas. Something that goes well with western style of dressing for muslim girls, if you know what i mean!

THanks x

Mabrook to the newbie hijab wearers! :) I just wanted to share this site I love and get tips from on different styles of hijab. Pearldaisy.com. Amazing selection of hijabs and she (amena- owner) makes sure they have coverage and no transparency. She even designed the hijab cap With ear holes to reduce pressure off the ears. And Sleeves so you dont have to layer your outfits re: getting hot. You can order online, the store is uk based. Lots of tutorial and tips. Check it out:) Thank you will check that out!

Oh for hair thinning.. When your at home don't have anything pulling on your hair( bun style, hijab cap), sleep on silk/satin pillow to reduce breakage and deep condition your hair. I love egg and olive oil masks. Oh and there are some hijab caps that have a satin front. Just some tips .., I'm sure there are tonnes:)

Choose the fabrics carefully, some are just "slippery" by nature and should be avoided. I do wear the cotton caps but after prolonged wear, your hair will thin. You need to sit in the direct sunlight with your hair free for about 20mins a week (according to my hairdresser who says my hair is starting to thin at the front). I try to do this but as I live in an extended family home, it is difficult to find private time/space. You will really enjoy Naïf Souq - it is fun! You can buy some really gorgeous pins there also!

Thank you all, for your great advice! I went to moe today, must go to Naïf Souq in Deira, never been there! I have three scarves now!! Two light silk, one light polyester. I think you might have something there Marroosh! I might be wearing them too tight! I bought a wide la e headband to use and I will pin to see if that makes a difference. Thank you!!! Now I need to look for a nice pleated to lave abaya! :-) almost got my wardrobe sorted!!

To stop the problem of the slipping hijab, I wear a cotton cap underneath. I buy all my shaylas in Naïf Souq in Deira - cheap and great selection if I don't want to wear the one that matches my abaya. There are many shops that sell them - don't forget to bargain down the price :). I also buy fabrics I like and have them made at the abaya tailor.

I like the crinkly ones - find they are easy to wear and quite light too. The ones i get are from a small Abaya shop in palm strip mall - they're not the cheapest sheylas you can buy but they still look good a couple of years after buying them and i like them.

Hello ladies! How does one wear the hijab without becoming so very hot and feeling faint from being so hot? I must be doing it wrong? I am looking for very light fabric and nice hijab pins which almost look like brooches or scarf pins. Any ideas please and thank you! Make sure you don't wear it too tight, use natural, light fabrics or chiffon. I like to wear the under scarves so it doesn't slip. Kashka at MOE and DM have a really good sale going on at the moment, I really likes their shaylas. They have loads of the stretchy ones. For pins, you can check the souqs, Souq Naif will probably have them, or some places in Satwa.

Hi ladies, Can any of you ladies advise/or come across a tutorial on how to style the stretch-y jersey hijabs without looking like a complete egghead? I find that the fabric sticks a lot..which is great because the hijab stays in place for the most part hence making it more manageable but not that good to look at? TIA! I can't help u with this Iman, my hijab style might be dated that's why i try to go for nice fabric and print. I like the hijab style of nowadays girls but I don't think it's for me. Would be interested in such tutorials though if any lady can help :)

Swissroll, while you were out today looking at hijabs, did you see any "amera" style (type) of better quality? Or is everything basicaly traditional shaylas. Also looking for the stretch jersey type as advertised on Rabiaz. Well, just checked rabiaz for the style you mentioned. I wasnt looking for similar but i'm sure i've seen a massive collection of jersey hijabs in kashka (now in ground floor) and some amera in Hanayen (LG floor). Thank you very much ladies, all sorted :) Long hours in Dubai mall but managed to buy really nice one from hanayen (discounted :), also a couple cheap ones from Splash. Nearly bought one from Kaskhka but changed my mind last minute. All in all was good :) May Allah reward you all x I looooove Hanayen!! Their shaylas are so pretty, especially the chiffon double sided ones... But they can be rrreally pricey though.. Happy to know you found some shaylas you liked:):)

Anon, I didn't go this year yet, so not sure which house but usually the Asian ones. Last year I got 3 sheyla with ripple on them. I like the volume that they give. Zeynab, Congratulation. You will be amazed how a regular white shirt would be new and extremly stylish by wearing it with diffrent sheyla each time ;-) Norak, I agree with you. This style is very practical. It's called " hijab alameera" in Arabic, wich means scarve of the princess. Originally Syrian style and the main factory is in Allepo, Syria. I would look in Syrian village for it, although im not sure with current conditions in Syria, it would be availible or not.

Koton and NewYorker (both in Ibn Batutta) have a really good selection of modern print hijabs with fun detailings. I got a khaki infinity scarf in cotton with black stamping and neon orange piping that is great with casual denim wear. ETA -- They are in the AED 60 range. Usually cotton material and are both wide enough and long enough to provide ample coverage! <em>edited by em2san on 20/12/2012</em>

GV seems like the place to go, but i don't think DH would agree, he won't take me. Also can i ask you please where can i find hanayen and kashka, any good shop DM? Both shops are in pretty much every mall : Dubai Mall ground floor next to the entrance where the bus stops, MOE first floor near Home Center.

Hi Swissroll. Would your DH let you go by yourself? I know that there is a Kashka in the Mirdif City Center. He'd be happy if i learn driving and leave him in peace :) With a 14 month baby the taxi ride wouldn't be fun. Thanks x

Global Village is excellent place for buying Shayla. You will find all the trendy prints and colours. Usually in China,Thiland and other Asian villages. Prices between 20 to 40 Aed / shayla. Life style , New look , Lulu , Care4, all of them will have nice shayla from time to time as Maroosh mentioned. Anon , I've checked the website. The material and design looks good, but 60 USD for a shayla is too much IMO. You will find almost the same in GV but without the brand printed. I agree. I did not pay that much for the ones I bought. I got them on sale. I am planning to go to GV soon. Which house is selling these? Do they have the ripple in them? I really like those the best.
