Hi ladies!

My husband and I are American expats moving to the Emirates in late summer from KSA. We don't yet have all the details about how things will work with his new job, or even exactly where in the UAE he will be placed.

Right now I'm trying to gauge the best plan of action for moving our things across the border. Does anyone know if it is possible to drive our things, including some small furniture, across the border and secure storage before receiving his residency visa?

Any info or ideas would help!

Definitely look for a shipping company to do the movement and clearance for you, especially on the KSA side. Things would be quite straight forward on the dubai side. Plenty of storage companies available in dubai with very flexible storage solutions for all kind of customers. Bigger shipping companies might be able to do the relocation and storage in one quote. Otherwise look for recommendations on expat woman before signing up with any storage company. Don't know where you plan to move in dubai but expect smaller rooms so it would be great idea to downsize your furniture a bit before moving. My friend landed with huge sized bedroom and living room things when moving from Bahrain and none of them fitted in her villa in springs. Had to discard a lot of things!

I would recommend you get in touch with one of the shipping companies in KSA. Doing the process on your own is not easy, especially on the KSA side. You should look at either Four Winds or East & West Express for a quote. UAE has a 5% customs tax on imported good that would apply to your good as well until you get the residency and then would be returned. All this is subject to a good clearance agent. Good luck with the move!

Dear , I don't know about driving across the borders, but i know about securing storage until you sort out everything. I moved from AbuDhabi to Dubai and used a moving company and had my furniture stored for 3 months. There are a lot of those movers companies all over, you may google and get your desired quotation. If want my same company, just let me know. Good Luck, u'll love it in here ..no comparison what so ever to KSA :)
