Hello Ladies, Apologies for the long thread. We are a British couple and moving to Dubai in the next few months with a 6 month baby. Although we have done our own research, we would really appreciate your personal advise and recommendations on the following: 1. Are there any mums and baby groups and where are these? 2. Property search - we are ideally looking for a 2+maids+study or 2+ in the following areas - barsha (near mall of emirates), downtown (near Dubai mall), Dubai Marina (near the metro), JBR and greens. We are looking at apartments and not villa/housing living and wanted to know which of these areas are closer to nurseries, play groups and young families? Our main priority is to be walking distance to a shopping mall, metro, local amenities. 3. Cars - we plan to buy brand new and prefer SUVs over 4x4s and saloons. Could anyone specifically recommend good, strong, sturdy SUVs (make and model) which have a good resale value. We would prefer Japanese/Korean cars since these have a better resale and less expensive on the maintenance. 4. Any recommendations on good British Montessori's/nurseries please? 5. Which are the good hospitals and can anyone recommend a good pediatrician who has a more natural approach and does not give medications unnecessarily. 6. Aside choitrams, carre4, spinneys are there any grocery stores where we can find free range eggs, hormone free meat and chicken, fish and fruits and veg which are pesticide, chemical free. Thank you so much in advance I cant help with Mother and baby groups sorry Downtown is close to Dubai Mall and lots of restaurants etc Barsha is close to Emirates Mall however it is the cheapest area to live in but the standard of buildings is not as nice as Downtown/Marina/Greens Marina is popular but can be very very busy You need to look on www.propertyfinder.ae or www.justrentals.com and have a look at prices for these areas as the price in Barsha will differ to that in Downtown I live in the Greens and it is very peaceful, clean and green! and close to all amenities, the higher rise buildings are of a better quality than those of the older greens buildings( They are called the Views) the metro station is in Tecom ( Internet City metro station) and it is walkable but it all depends upon which end you live it Taxis are cheap and plentiful here JBR is popular and close to the beach/walk Greens/Views and JBR have alot of young families I would say if you want beach living then JBR which is at the Marina Quiet area Greens and Views Inner city living Downtown Many people buy demo cars with a few miles on the clock rather than brand new There are so many dealerships here that you can have a look around Mitsubishi Outlander, Honda crv, mazda cx 5 and Toyota Highlander always come tops in the safety records We have the Organic shop here which sells organic/ free range. This type of food here is double the cost of the Uk! Waitrose and Spinneys also do hormone free meat, many markets do organic veg etc I cant help with the other bits but you can use the search function above and put it key words which will throw posts up, you also have the grey bars above which have all sorts of information pertaining to living here .
