Need some advice pls on welts/hives on OH face

My OH is suffering terribly at the moment with large oval shaped hives/welts on his face-he thinks its caused by stress and is getting a couple a week. I cant get him to go to the GP
There is nothing coming out of them except clear liquid but they look really bad and painful and are usually on his chin or cheeks. Have suggested he doesnt shave for a few days to help them clear up and have been putting germaline on them but don't know what else to do to treat them. Asked at the pharmacy this morning but he didnt seem to understand what I was saying or describing. Its really really getting him down and I dont know how to help him :(
