Can someone give me an idea on how to make PECS books for my children?

The velcro available in the market is not the adhesive one and the one available does not stick on with most glues on most surfaces.

Don't know where to get small files or small books which will have material to stick the PECS. Should I laminate chart paper and file it and if yes, where can I get small files or ring binders?

I want to make small books which will have to PECS per page for home use and am at a loss here.

Thanks guys. I do have a small laminating machine and was thinking of laminating small chart papers. Was wondering about the ring holders and PECS. Kim, could you email me some PECS I could use? Thanks Jammie & buttonmoon for your valuable inputs. Isn't Prolo the one you use on Ipods? was thinking of that, nut my kids tend to throw things and we had to say goodbye to an ipod within 3 months cos of that. How are you coping? You guys are life savers :)

Hi I have not had time to read through all the replies, so I may already be giving you information you already know, if that the case, sorry! Anyway, I made my son's pecs book about 6 months ago. Its A5 size and I got sticky valcro from ace hardware on SZ road, I bought a huge roll and still have loads left over. I also have the pecs program with loads of pics you can use. Let me know if you would like it, I can try to email it to you. I have a laminator here too I'm happy to lend to you. We live in Motor City(behind ranches)

We have just started using this: http://www.proloquo2go.com/About/article/ipad I hadn't heard of it before but my brother did some research and gave it to my son for Christmas. So far he is putting his whole hand on the screen rather than pushing one symbol but I'm sure he'll get the hang of it.

http://www.pecs.org.uk/shop/asp/prodtype.asp?prodtype=7 We have this folder, it's not that big? pages A5 size? I have loads of templates for cards if you need them? The library store in SZ rd has sticky velcro by the roll, very cheap. You can buy a laminator at Sharaf, ours was about 100 dirhams, not a flash one but does the trick. Just copied this earlier post with directions to the library store. HTH Copied my post from an earlier thread Where are you coming from? If its from the Springs/Lakes etc side - Take the Al Manara exit on SZR and follow the road to the service lane. You will pass the Al Quoz Metro Station (Noor Islamic Bank Station). A bit further down is Dubai Library. If coming from Burdubai side, take the 3rd interchange exit and u-turn on to the other side of SZR. Take the first right and follow into the service lane. Rest instructions are as above Hope thats clear!

Hey thanks. I want small books. So A5 ring folders will be big. Will try to see if I can get smaller ring folders or a smaller book. Can you tell me if we get readymade laminated sheets or do we have to buy chart paper and get it laminated and then cut to the size we require? Also, do you know the name & location of the shop in Satwa where we can get the stick on velcro? They are easy to make. Use either A4 or smaller A5 ring folders and insert laminated coloured paper. Have the laminated coloured paper sheets landscape and place vertical velcro columns on the shorter length. Then you need a thinner strip to go along the bottom which is stuck on with velcro but needs velcro on the other side to stick things on. You can see a bought one here www.pecs.org.uk/shop/asp/prodtype.asp?prodtype=7 They use plastic sheets but laminated paper or laminated card works just as well. You can buy large rolls of stick on velcro in Satwa. It is cheaper to buy the wider rolls and cut up to make it narrower. I brought a load with me from UK where you can buy cheaply on line. The important part is to be consistent about the way you use the velcro. If you are getting symbol cards from school or another source use that as a guide. It is a pain when it won't stick because you have used the wrong side of the velcro. It sounds complicated but it isn't. If you get stuck leave me your email and I will be in contact.
