A friend of mine is looking at a career change and wondered if he can do this out here?

It is possible now however you would need to be a registered nurse already with 2 years experience. Admission preference is given to Emiratis however GCC residents can also apply. Course takes 18 months. http://www.hct.ac.ae/programs/aspx/bas_midwifery.aspx

There is a college here where you can do medical training, I am not sure if it is only open to locals though, it's the womens college of higher education based towards sharjah way, I am being vague as I can't really remember but hopefully someone else will!

good point, although it was my fault as it's a typo! I meant she. ooo sounds interesting, who's looking at setting this up do you know? LOL - I thought it was a brave man who would try to train as a midwife here. It was the dept of health in Dubai - not sure how far along it is though as the person who pushed for this has now left. If you google it you should find some press articles about it - there have been quite a few.
