I made old fashioned british rice pudding last night with calrose rice which I got in Carrefour. It worked a treat and was delicious! I looked at calrose rice but as it is a medium grain decided not to buy it. Made mine with Egyptian Rice and that worked well. :)

Saltire, what recipe do you use? plz post it! I'm tired of my "arbic style rice pudding!" Really it is just an old fashioned British rice pudding of rice, milk, sugar and a sprinkling of nutmeg, nothing fancy to it.

i just use aborio or risotto rice I have plenty of that. Does it give the same result? Have you found oven or cooker top method best for it? Told my DS I would make rice pudding then couldn't find any rice. :) for rice pudding i just pop a layer in a pyrex dish, sprinkle with vanilla sugar, cover with milk stick a cap of rose water, and two battered cardamom pods and stick in a low over for an hour or two - taste for sweetness and add more sugar if needed and more milk if too dry. Thanks Izzy, I shall try that with my risotto rice tomorrow. :)

Marks and Spencers sell bags of dried pudding rice (or you can buy ambrosia ready made tinned stuff from Spinneys).

Egyptian rice works well for rice pudding. It is a short grain rice.

Has anyone seen short grain rice to make a traditional British Rice Pudding? Or any suggestions what works well instead. :)
