Recruiting a live in maid - how long should I give it?

Hi everyone

I'm fairly new to Dubai, and as both my husband and I have to work, we'll need to get some help with childcare for the afternoons.

We've just got my husband's residency through and have now got the keys to our apartment (hopefully we'll furnish it this weekend - no pressure hey!!!).

We'll need our maid/nanny to be in and working by the end of this month. Is it too early to start contacting potential candidates, or advertising now? We don't yet have the attested copy of my husband's work contract and that seems to be holding up my residency - do we need the same attested document to sponsor a maid, or will they accept just a normal contract from his company?

Sorry so many vague questions but any guidance would be great. I am feeling homesick and a bit overwhelmed by it all, but want to do the best I can to find the best possible person to take care of our little boy.

Thanks

It's better to be fussy and very specific from the very beginning. You should definitely bring an attested copy of your husband's work contract, but I believe they can do it at the Immigration office as well. Check out the maid guidelines on the EW site, it's quite helpful.

Thanks for the advice - I scribed an ad - probably far too fussy and specific (neurotic mum I am at the moment) - in the middle of the night last night as I am not sleeping too well at the moment. Too much diet coke I think. Will start looking in earnest.

Definitely start advertising now and interviewing- just make sure that they're on valid visas until your husband can transfer them onto his visa. Welcome to Dubai and good luck!
