Hi y'all, I have really long hair (till my butt!) and with summer coming up, I've been thinking about cutting it very short like a long bob....but I wonder if I'll regret cutting it so short. Anyone out there who got a really drastic short haircut? Did you like it or did you regret it? Where in Dubai did you get it cut?

I am sure that stricklands has pulled all of her hair out by now with this thread.... haha am a bit confused but leaning towards cutting it all of. I've never had it short and it'll always grow back right? Besides, I think its better to regret something instead of not doing it. :) Exactly!! I went from long hair half way down my back to a pixie cut in one go when I was your age and LOVED IT!!! Be sure you go to a REALLY good hairdresser. Remember when you first cut it it will take a while to settle properly into the new style with all of that weight gone. Enjoy!

I had hair almost to my bottom about 3 yrs ago and it was heavily highlighted too. Chopped it off to shoulder length, as I wanted to go back to my natural colour and get it back to tip-top condition. It has taken me all this time to grow the blonde out (under a hair dye close to my natural colour) and now it's even shorter in length. I have found it so much easier to deal with and as I used to tie it back every day anyway, I couldn't see the point of keeping it so long. However, I have missed having long hair and also the highlights, as it used to look lovely when I went out on an evening. Now I feel a bit dull and boring.... I would suggest that you change the length gradually if you've had it long for a long time...a long bob sounds a good choice....can't help you with hairdressers as I had mine cut in the UK.

A wonderful organization. http://www.locksoflove.org/ You can mail your cut hair to them.

I was in the salon the other day and an emirati young woman came in with the most stunning gently wavy/curly hair...so..sexy and she was having it straightened!!! sad..I kept think Shakira lol. Why not learn to 'dress'your hair for summer? French braid, reverse french braid, modified gibson...shoved up with chopsticks...there is so many things you can do with your hair :)...cut it to make it healthy then shove it up, pull out a few tendrils and voila..summer hair. I had hair to my bum until I was about 33..and cut it. It is very short now, 27 years on and I love it...easy to care for and I can change the style :)...anyway...work on it and see if you can come up with alternatives with dressing your hair. Long hair that just sits there, I find boring...spice it up lol edited by SueB on 08/04/2011

I love long hair, but only when it's well taken care of. I think it has to have some body and be neatly cut, otherwise it can look awful. Short hair do's can be beautiful as well, but personally I am one of those who wishes I could grow my hair out so if I managed it I would keep it long! I think the key is to make sure it's always cut well so no straggly ends, and that it's kept shiny and bouncy rather than lank and thin... At least you're honest :o) I agree long hair has to be healthy other wise it looks horrible. The same goes for short hair... more so for long hair though. Yes certainly that applies to all hair styles :)

OK I've lost it here. No disrespect LadyMuck but you say that short hair is aging and then you say that one shouldn't keep their hair long. I may have quoted you incorrectly and for that I apologise. Thanks She's already said to you that she thinks long hair is aging, not short hair.

Cut it off I say, how many times do you actually wear your hair down, or is it mostly tied back. Get it cut into a modern style, you are still young!!!

really? extensions most of them anyway - dead looking.. Exactly. People are putting in extensions to get long hair that others have naturally (like the OP). She'll regret it if she cuts it, I'm sure of it!

funnily enough one of them was about 17 and one was from a "bad hair day"website ! Yes, a bad hair day site where someone had posted a pic of what they wish their hair looked like! Hmm... I'll never understand why some women hate long hair with a passion. It always seems to be the ones who can't grow their hair (it stops growing after a certain length or grows scraggly). Sorry! Short hair is beautiful, so is any length hair. Stop hating on long hair ;o) And they were all in their twenties, one even in her thirties.... edited by dairylea on 07/04/2011

very ageing ... Hi LadyMuck Just out of curiosity but how is short hair aging? When I went back home after trying to grow my hair here, he suggested a short cut and yep, it worked for me. So I'm interested. TIA

My hair was almost as long as yours and I got it all cut off! It took a long time to get used to. Peoples comments also took a long time to get used to; ooohhhh I .........erm....... like what you have done with your hair. or It looks so much better now!! So what were they saying? Did it look bad before? Why didn't they tell me?? If you don't do it you will never know! Just go for it, hair grows back. :) It would take years to grow back from a bob to her length! I think if she really wants to cut it she should do it gradually :o) How short did you go, and did you do it all in one go?!

My friend over here had long hair and then went to see Elaine at Ted Morgan who cut and styled it to shoulder length such that she can now blow dry it to her style but also leave it if she wants and either way, it looks great

I have hair down to my waist. I cut it once and regretted it til it grew back. My advice would be not to cut it, especially not such a drastic cut. If you really want a bob do it i stages; cut a small amount off each week maybe. I'm in my twenties by the way...
