Residence Visa Renewal - Health insurance in Germany! what do do ?

a while ago I read an article in one of the newspapers here that it is now mandatory to have local Health Insurance when renewing the residence visa.
But we have our health insurance in Germany which is much better cover as the one usually provided by our employer. I don't want the company to buy extra insurance, is there a chance to provide a letter?
The german insurance could confirm that we are insured and then I can show it here at Immigration when renewing visa?
I think in the papers they mentioned something, a special form, that should be filled, but I can't find the article anymore. Anyone knows?
