So after living and driving here for over 8 years you would think that i would know the answer to this, however, the last few days i have been in several near misses on roundabouts that i have to ask, who has the right of way? In the UK, where i am from, the person on the roundabout has the right of way but it seems to me when i slam on the brakes to avoid another car and perhaps gesticulate to them about their mistake they seem to think that they have the right of way and cannot believe that i didn't give way. UAE follows the UK highway code as far as i know so what gives?

Agreed Chocs01. He was already in the left hand lane allowing him to turn right, like me; he was doing a roundabout straight (guess who had to go to Belhasa driving school for lessons to get my licence even though I'm British and had been driving for over 30 years!!!). Anyway I was doing a roundabout right, so in effect, we were both in the correct lanes but muppet features wanted to go into my lane to turn off!!!!

I may have been in the wrong but I don't think so but surely cars are not supposed to change lanes whilst driving on a roundabout (not a big one like at the Greens but the small one at Mirdiff Uptown). I got honked at cos some guy decided to change to my lane even though I was just turning immediately off at the first exit?!!!! You can change lanes, but cars need to be in the correct lane to start with. So for example if you have a 2 lane roundabout like the one at Uptown, the right lane obviously goes right or straight ahead, the left, left or all the way round, so the cars on the right should have filtered off for those in the left to then move over to their exit. It's when you get the numpties in the right lane, who then want to go left! You know about 10 years ago they removed the majority of RAB's in Dubai, because people can't use them properly, maybe they need to do that again.

The majority of drivers here have zero clue how to use roundabouts. People pull out straight in front of you when you're on it. You always get some idiot in the left lane, who then decides he wants to get off at the next exit and storms across 4 lanes to do so. It drives me mad when people are in the right lane, then try to go all the way round - argh! 5-lane roundabouts are never going to be pretty. They work on the far-fetched principles of a/ knowing how to drive [safely'>, b/ respecting other road users and c/ slowing down as you approach them.

I think the person who invented roundabouts needs to be placed against a wall and shot at. It's so nerve wrecking driving around them. My absolute worst one is the trade center roundabout.... It's complete chaos there at any time of day or night! At 11pm they would switch the robots (signals) to flashing amber and that was always such a hit and miss. Don't know if they do that anymore though? Noooo. We need MORE roundabouts and less spaghettis...

Keep giving those interlopers the bird!
