As someone paying their own school fees, I have no wish to see a 30% increase. However, it is reverting back to the 30% over 3 years rule that used to be in force prior to the KHDA limits of the last few years. Most schools look at a 10% increase each year rather than 30% in one go. Lets see who the greedy schools are! Edited to add that 10% increase each year will just about finish me off, but as the college mine are at has, to date, been really good about increases and fee payments, I'm hoping they continue to be as reasonable. edited by mrsg on 05/01/2011

Ridiculous, as it stands now I can send my children to superior private schools at home for less than I am currently paying here. :( Exactly!

Filling in the KHDA questionnaire today and there's a a few questions about fees and a box for further comments on the cost and affordability of education in Dubai. Hope they take the comments on board. I think they did for the most part last time...so hopefully they'll do so again. Can't hurt and it's the truth.

Dubai stands to lose out financially if mothers go home with their children for the sake of their education whilst fathers stay on to work. Not only on school fees but men here on their own are going to spend a lot less money than a family would.

I just don’t understand how they can justify a fee hike especially as Dubai schools are falling way below international averages But they are above Mexico, Liechenstein and about 20 other countries... ;) Hehe! Pathetic.....

Last September, some GEMS Indian curriculum schools hiked their fees by about 40%. If it was not directly the school fees, it was the transport fees. The argument was that there had not be any increases for a while and to give more resources to school, fees had to go up.

If this will happen then we have to pack up and go home. My DH does not get education allowance and the current fees are already hard on our pockets. :( Although I'm not in your same position, I easily could be with how unsteady employment is. And to be honest, I don't think the schools will wake up until a significant number of people are unfortunate to have to leave because the cost of living outweighs the benefits (ie salary). I cringe at the thought of the rises in school fees...especially since we have no public alternative like we would in the US. Private school used to be a privilege, but here it's our only option. :(

When will we know if the schools are to increase the fees, this is such a worry. Probably after the next round of KHDA asessments

This is so ridiculous. Most people who are just now starting employment here in the UAE aren't receiving payment for school fee's let alone the salary packages that once existed. I wonder how they expect people to afford schools here. Also wonder how many thousands of people this decision will drive away. Surely this should be a factor before deciding to move to the UAE

The old excuse for raising school fees was that accommodation for staff and premises was so expensive but rents have fallen so much.

I heard that schools that didn’t raise the fees last year will be allowed to raise the fees this year 30%
