Hello everyone, I wonder if you could help. I have decided that it's about time I learnt how to sow and I'm looking for classes in Dubai. I know about Craftland near in town centre, but it's too advanced for me. I need an absolute beginners class, where you're first taught how to sow by hand (so my mother tells me) before you move onto a machine. Does anyone know where I can find this pls? Thanks

Probably suits me better too - rachelrumble at hotmail dot com is my email. I am in Jumeirah 1 / Al Bada'a area - is that a reasonable distance for you?

@ AriVW: yes, born and bred, until I was 18 when i moved to the UK and now I'm here. @ VH Caterpillar. That would be wonderful. Though evenings are better for me as I have 2 little ones, or sometime over the w/e. But then again I guess it can be as flexible as we need it to be. @Saltire: thanks for the tip

I don't see any reason why you should learn to sew by hand before moving on to a sewing machine. There will be parts of dressmaking which require hand sewing but both hand and machine sewing can be picked up together. :)

My mistake, sorry. But for my defence I'll specify that English is my 3rd language, so I'm bound to make mistakes. On this note, I can even offer to swap sewing lessons for free French lessons if anyone interested.... Moustique, I can sew and I have always wanted to learn French (did a couple of years worth in high school). I have a very old Janome that still works fine and I would be happy to show you the basics. If you are flexible with times and don't mind possible toddler interference here and there, we could try and tee something up? Let me know and I'll give you my email.:)

I can't change the title, only an administrator or moderator can apparently ... all I can do is change my posts which will then make it even more confusing. How embarrassing. So to any future readers, pls ignore this thread, as it makes no sense. PS having told my husband about it he burst out laughing at the thought of me ploughing the garden BY HAND. :) edited by Moustique on 29/01/2011

Bless you, but do change the title of your thread I was puzzled thought it might be a herb garden theme or something xx

i noticed the other week that the ladies club was doing a pattern making course, maybe they have a sewing class or the teacher who does the pattern making course may know of someone who can help.

I think HAK is just pointing it out so you can alter if (if altering thread titles is possible), as people who know about sewing looking at the title may assume you're asking gardening questions and not click through. edited by Custard Apple on 29/01/2011

"sowing" is for seeds... "sewing" is stitching.
