Most of the newer sleep tabs aren't available in the UAE. This includeds Ambien, Lunesta, Rozerem, etc.. You can get prescriptions for valium and xanax, but these should not be used for chronic sleep problems as they are very addictive. Although you may be able to buy them over the counter, the pharmacy is risking their license as they are controlled substances and require special MOH prescriptions from your doctor. Western doctors in Dubai know how to circumvent these rules, regulations, and banned substances and can prescribe meds which are used off label (meaning they're intended to be used for one problem, but are good at inducing sleep). Your doctor needs to know what's causing your sleep problems and what they entail (e.g. mind racing, trouble falling asleep, waking early, apnea, night terrors, etc.). Only then will the doc be able to prescribe what's best for your situation since sleep meds work different from one another. Valium and Xanex aren't sleep meds, but are to treat anxiety. If you need something over the counter for occasional sleeplessness, try Panadol Night or benedryl. Sweet dreams!

Stargazer: No, a female British doctor in an Abu Dhabi clinic. Can't remember her name nor the clinic, though, sorry! I have the memory span of a goldfish. I'm pretty sure any reputable clinic in Dubai should prescribe it, though, as I had the gall to ask for something stronger and she said Zopiclone was the strongest sleeping drug they could prescribe in the UAE. Maybe they're open to Ambien, though, worth a mention. :)

i find melatonin a bit hit and miss. it didn't work for along time but then knocked me right out last night. FYI - you can buy it in the organic place in dubai mall. previously i've had american friends bring it over for me.

depends on what you need, you can get most stuff over the counter in egypt, no questions asked. xanax/valium included! But please don't think about bringing it back into UAE, both are on the restricted list..... http://abudhabi.usembassy.gov/restricted_medication_.html no comment! You can bring them in and out as long as you are carrying the script for them

If you go to a doctor they can prescibe zanax. As long as you have a prescibtion for certain meds you are fine. Melatonin is a herbal sleep aid and it really does work well.

Doctors here are only allowed to prescribe valium for 3 days My father took them for sleeping and when he came to visit last year he forgot them The doc said he could have them but we had to go back every 3 days for a new script it s because they are a controlled drug here
