DS eats from what we eat since he was 6.5 months. All mild spices like cumin, coriander, cinnamon, etc are fine. DS didnt like any type of puree & he prefered more flavoured food. I also use herbs & black pepper in my cooking

I put a little cumin and coriander powder (1/8th tsp each) in DS2's pureed carrots and pumpkin. He seems to like it and I figure it will help him eat our family's daily meals after his 1st birthday. Actually, it was reading posts by (American and Canadian) moms on the Mothering magazine forum that gave me the courage to try this!

Personally, I decided to only introduce spices a little later on, after 12 months. That's because I wanted my children to first get to know the real taste of the foods they were having.

My children are 19 and 17 but I allowed them simple spices like cinnamon. I looked at it from the perspective that Indian/Mexican/Thai babies (for example) are fed foods with stronger spices and thrive so a little bit of flavour was ok.
