We went to Thailand for our honeymoon, arranged the day before we got married as at the time, husbad had contacts with BA so got us free flights and cheap rates at hotels. I knew I wanted to visit the island of Koh Samui and my husband is an inveterate tourist who wanted to visit the whole country in 5 days! So, we split the difference, landed in Bangkok, stayed for a couple of nights at the Oriental Hotel, which is an experience I would recommend to anyone who can and then went on a Temple Tour (the only tour we could get on at such short notice!) which took us to the Golden Triangle in the north by way of Sukothai, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Lampong (and maybe more, but it was a long time ago!). We visited a butterfly farm, an elephant camp, a silk factory and a Karin village. Back in Bangkok, we saw the Royal Boatyard, visited sapphire jewellers, went on the klongs, tried to work out what food was being depicted in the photos outside restaurants and visited more temples! Then we took a bus to somewhere in the south and then a boat from there to Koh Samui (that is the only part I would not repeat, the boat was a ghastly experience, overcrowded and it just felt really unsafe to my western customs). We stayed on the north of the island and had a great time, although even 20 years ago, it felt very "tourist-trappy". Lovely country though, I'd still go again! The place I wished we'd visited was Ayutthaya. Have a lovely time - I see one of the websites is warning there are floods there. We went in May, which was the monsoon season, so not the best time to go there! edited by simpleasabc on 15/04/2011

Thanks so much for the websites. I got 2 tickets to Bangkok from the Qatar offer 2 for 1. So that is the reason we are going there. We are landing in Bangkok that's all I know. Don't know if we should stay in Bangkok or stay in another place. Will use those websites for sure but i would be very grateful if i had to have some suggestions from you wonderful people. Thanks

It's all very subjective, there's an amazing amount to see and do in Thailand, so if you don't know which part of the country you want to go to, websites like this: http://www.tourismthailand.org/ this: http://www.lonelyplanet.com/thailand or this: http://travel.nytimes.com/travel/guides/asia/thailand/where-to-go.html might be of help. If your husband is travelling to a specific place, like Bangkok, for example, if you let us know, I'm sure people would be able to make more helpful suggestions. edited by simpleasabc on 15/04/2011
