I have a love and hate relationship with the Damask tree. I love it cause it works as a great screen by my pool. And I hate it cause it sheds a lot of these round seeds and that IF not pruned regularly it will destroy anything and everything including sewage lines, pools and boundary walls. The trick is to prune, prune and prune. The more you prune the branches the less the roots will spread. So if you are like me who wants to keep the tree, just make sure your gardener doesn't let it grow too big or wide to avoid structural damage.

I've got 2 Black locust trees with sharp thorns in my garden. We just chopped it off but its growing so fast. I think its worse than Conocarpus trees! Landlord wants to keep the trees. So we just have to cut off every stems that grows. :(

Sorry to bump up an old thread - but I think these are the trees DH and I are thinking of putting in our garden. Can someone please post a photo or picture so i can be sure if its the same tree? We don't want to buy them if they do damage... Thanks! Shellly, we got Neem trees instead of these bad trees as we had the baddies up in our old villa and they totally destroyed the pipes underground. The Neem trees aren't as dense and don't grow as fast though. Thanks for the tip ;) We'll have to check 'em out when next at your place! :)

Conocarpus is the name, they are everywhere, maybe go to a nursery and ask them to show you what the look like.
