Hello,

My husband and I just moved to Dubai from Sydney 2 months ago. We would like to buy a luxury car, but we're kind of torn between a new and used one. Could anyone please tell us the steps that we have to go through if we opt for a new or a used one? Which one is better? We are not yet very familiar regarding the rules in buying a car here and we don't want to get caught up in a lot of red tape. Also, could you please recommend a car showroom that offers the best deals on cars? By the way, my husband and I prefer to buy a Land Rover or a Mercedes-Benz.

I would greatly appreciate your help on this. Thanks so much in advance.

I vote Mercedes and used. Always people coming and going. Try the message boards outside Parknshop by Safa Park- you often see Mercs for sale there .

As a temporary resident (which we all expats are) you need to consider selling your car once your contract term is over. If you came to Dubai for 2-3 years, then I would personally suggest used car. Because any car that leaves the door of the showroom looses its value immediately (unless you don't mind. So, better get 1-2 year old car. If you are on a longer-term contract, then any option will work.

Hi, Mercedes over a Land Rover. Owned both and still have the Mercedes and its going strong. There are alot of Mercedes shops also that can fix used cars. Digitec, Munich Motors etc. New or used? its up to your budget and what class you want. Read on the reviews of the cars you like and the problems it will help you decide, there are many people leaving Dubai all the time who's dream didn't quite make it. look in Dubizzle and Al Ain Cars and there is a Auto Trade. **I got my car with 1002 klm and paid AED65,000( car was big $$$$) less than the show room! I was a very happy Girl.

Lots of scams with used cars. I'd be really careful, and make sure it is checked etc. Another issue I heard about is that spare parts on luxury cars are quite expensive, that's why people sell luxury cars after a few years. I am not an expert in any way but that's just my 2 cents...
