Just spent NYE in Doha! I think its slightly more expensive that Dubai. It's not somewhere I would be rushing to get back to. There isn't alot to do with LO's except take them to the Mall. Just in case your interested Tennis is on this week and then there is the Asia Football Worldcup going on as well - final is on 29 January. So lots of footballers around but no Beckhams!

Andy -- it's nearly impossible to get taxis in Doha except from hotels, which are extortionate. Try to get the name/mobile of a driver or the card of your taxi driver from the airport so you can get around more easily. I second that! Impossible to get a taxi in Doha! Ask on the Qatar forum for a driver. I have unfortunately lost the number of the guy I used when I lived in Doha.

i go frequently with work. expect to be stared at at doha airport! more than is usual here i find (even though i am in suits this happens) i am so past the point of caring it doesn't bother me at all. it's quieter than dubai. go to the W hotel for a drink - bar is lovely....

Only been there with my hubby but don't think there are any problems at all!! You may find it slightly less westernised than Dubai...But very similar to Abu Dhabi in terms of ratio of expats and locals. Enjoy...Its a lovely place.
