Hi, I need to go shopping for a new wardrobe... all my clothes are either maternity or Aberdeenshire climate appropriate. If i look up online the likes of Next, New Look, River Island etc is that what i'll find in the shops here or am i wasting my time?
Obviously im no stick insect but would like to look a tad more presentable and most importantly not overheating! So any recommendations for shops that i may find in the malls here that are not my "usual" (as above) would also be appreciated. Thanks :-)

We went to Sharjah on Sunday _ Took a couple of pictures and some items to copy - chose a mass of fabric from 15dh - 95dh a yard - 2 yards for linen trousers - they have cost 90dh to make and they are fantastic _ got the pics from ASOS for the dresses - I am soo pleased with my things _ going back on Sunday for more ....

I went to Deira (Naif area) and had two linen trousers made. I just took a pic from a magazine and chose my own material. They cost 30 dirhams each and look great. :)

I need a new wardrobe as well and had a look around last week, didn't see anything that was really worthwhile, sorry to say. All the stores ready mentioned IMO had (overpriced) rubbish. Am looking for smart/casual trousers, tops and dresses...... Everything seems really in-between, no real summer gear to speak of and everything was either old-fashioned looking or too young. I did however get two nice classic blazer/jackets from Zara, they won't be very practical here in the summer though LOL but love the look with a plain tee and jeans. As already mentioned the outlet mall may be worth a look, it's really hit and miss though, you need to go frequently to always have a finger on the pulse of whats out there. Most of the time the sizes are really tiny or really large and let's face it, its an outlet mall, there are reasons why that stock hasn't sold in other stores ;) Good luck!

Try the outlet mall, a lot of people slate it but if you are going for wardrobe staples and not fashion then it may be your place. They have a monsoon, banana republic and gap, good for buying the basics in good quality fabrics and from monsoon you may just get those funky accessories. There is a shop called lily there which also has well cut garments at a fraction of the UK price. They also have a Mango and a Massimo Dutti. There is a shop call Allied that does Geox/Todds etc for great prices but as with any outlet mall its a hit or a miss.

Thanks, I like Monsoon too but only used to buy things from there when there was a sale on! Grippy Scot! I'll keep my eyes peeled for linen items too. Thanks for the pointers

I like shopping at Promod at Mercato. Very helpful staff (will even play with your kids while you try on!), excellent range of basics and great summer range at the moment, and IMO not too expensive.

Hi Emma, Start with the basics, linen trousers bootcut tends to be the most flattering for most shapes, spend a little bit of money on them and get them in a few colours then find a good quality vest top with or without sleeves and buy in the colours which suit you best. Mix and match with funky accessories. Buy flattering dresses/skirts and mix with the above. Look up your body shape on the net to find out what cuts will work best for your body shape and really highly recommend having your colours done professionally. For shops try Monsoon, Banna Republic, Debenhams, Reiss, vero moda. There are a few stylist here in Dubai that wont break the bank if you feel thats a better place to start. Good luck!

I like Monsoon and Bannana Republic (has a sale at the moment) which might be a bit more grown up than the ones you mention (Dubai Mall). I also order stuff online from Boden and have it brought over when someone visits. If you want to spend a bit more, then the outnet.com deliver to UAE and I've had a couple of nice dresses from them. Happy shopping!
