Hi Ladies

Would eb grateful to know whichis the best emirate to live in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah?

Which is best to bring kids up in, best facilities, quality of life, best places to live, least bureacracy etc

( I am a Muslim so dont drink alcohol...so Sharjah being dry isnt problem for me)

Pros and Cons would be great

I live in Sharjah (Buhairah). I'm born here & never had issues with living in Sharjah even when I was working in Dubai. I'm a SAHM mom, I have 1 son 14 months old. We'r thinking seriously to move to Dubai as you cant find decent nurseries, play areas or groups in Sharjah. Travelling to Dubai is not easy esp during the rush hrs. When we take DS out in the afternoon, we cant come back home before 8:30 - 9 pm because of the traffic which is a big issue. sorry to digress, Wickedangel, i am not sure if you are aware but there is lovely moms and tots group in sharjah that meets weekly and a music/rhymes meet up as well for toddlers(on the Buhairah Corniche). post your email and i'll put you intouch with them. P:S i also live in Sharjah and like it here, but saying that we mostly spend our weekends in Dubai. edited by remmex76 on 31/01/2011

I hopefully will be working freelance I have visited AD for the day but found it very quiet..it was a Friday, maybe thats the reason but there didnt seem to be much happening. Is Sharjah similar in that respect? Yes. If you want nightlife, shopping, a large selection of restaurants etc then you may be better suited to Dubai. If I was here with a family and could afford to I would live in AD as I like that it is more laid back and cultural. I am not really familiar with Sharjah although a colleague who lives there says that facilities are limited and they come to Dubai most weekends. HTH

Where will you be working? That would have a great deal of bearing on where to live as traffic can be a major consideration

I much preferred living in Abu Dhabi to Dubai, but we didn't live in AD for long (trying to find an acceptable, affordable flat was a nightmare, so we gave up and moved up the road to Dubai), and we don't have children, so you probably need to hear from people who do. My OH commuted to AD, though, and given the road horrors, I would choose somewhere that limits time spent on the roads above most other considerations.
