Hi all just wanting some help establishing a bit of a routine with DS1 (21 mths old) and DS2 newborn.

Currently nb sleeps in cot next to our bed and DS1 has his own room. DS2s cries at night time with both doors shut wakes DS1 most times. How do I deal with this when on my own? DH going to be away for work quite often the next few weeks.

also how do you work the morning wake ups? Again like this morning DS2 woke at 5.40am for feeding and woke ds1 who woulD not then go bk to sleep. Loooooooooong day!!

Any advice with structure etc is greatly appreciated.

Aussiepup - i am lighter than i have ever been, with certainly no diet and no exercise!! thats what happens when you have 2 young boys (i also work, so have specialised in the art of rushing everywhere to fit it all in!!!) good luck with it all anyway, dont forget the little one will grwo up very fast!

Thx all. Had my first experience of both of them crying at same time tonight. I went to older one first and just quietly said "yes you can hear your brother, but mummy needs you to be a big boy and go back to sleep" he did thankfully! I can't wait to have them playing together. DS1 loves having company with his friends over, today a friend popped by with her DD and they played chasey (20 mth and 15 mth olds version of chasey that is!) lol. It was very cute. Oh and I soooo hope you are right re weight dropping off, have 18kgs to lose taking me back to pre DS1 weight.

congrats!! white noise was our solution - i put a stand up fan in both the kids rooms, which helps anyway with air circulation, and that did the trick most of the time. sometimes however, this won't work and you will just have to grin and bear it. it IS tough with 2 who are close in age (i have 2 DS 20 months apart) but I promise it does get easier! now DS2 is nearly 2, they are having such fun together, and that really started as soon as DS2 became mobile. so it's worth it, just try to think of it as a very short period of time in their overall lives...good luck! ETA, your babyweight will drop off in no time with 2 DSs to run after!!! edited by JulesLC on 26/03/2012

Aussiepup, congratulations on your new baby :-) I'd say white noise in DS1's room to draw out DS2's crying? How is your AC? Ours is quite noisy and keeps us from waking up from such sounds when turned on. Hang in there, if you justt had your second, in a matter of weeks your first will have gotten used to it and will hopefully sleep through.
