Morning - my daughter who is 22 months old has started not going to bed and waking up in the night - both occasions she screams and screams its like something from the excorcist !!! up until the last month or so she has always slept well - no dumby or anything like that - falling asleep alone and waking about 10-11 hours later on - happy and content - !!! its driving me and husband mad plus keeping the other 2 kids awake !! the only thing that stops her bring and banging her door down is letting her in our bed - which I'm against but i when she will scream for hours on end - what else do you do ???? we have in laws arriving tomorrow and i can't do the "let them cry it out " whilst they are here they will go home thinking I'm useless .......... she only really naps in the car as we have the 2 others for school runs so its not like she has a huge daytime sleep either - so the sleepless nights are making her as cranky as me ....

Any advice would be greatly appreciated - I never these problems with my other 2 - it makes you worry that something is wrong with them ??
please help ............

Hi Purple Rain Sounds really awful but familiar...hope it passes soon! Has anything changed in her routine, room, or anything unusual happened which might have started her off? Has she started eating different foods recently which might make her cranky? They can pick up tension a mile away and have amazing capacity to hear private conversations! But then she's only 22 months....We went through a phase of one of us having to sit with our son whilst he went to sleep and rub his back until he went to sleep. It seemed to go on for months (and we often fell asleep before he did) but gradually we moved nearer and nearer to the door each night until we were outside...If you let her into your bed she will begin to disassociate her room as the room of sleep which will be an extra hurdle to get over....I know because I've been there too! Don't worry what the in-laws will think - they've had children and must know that they all go through these weird phases. The other thing I'd say is to make sure she's not over-napping in day which would make her take longer to go to sleep at night...you've probably thought of this...but we've had to keep our children awake in the day sometimes as they've started to slip out of the 'oh so important' evening sleep routine. Having boys we've always tried to make sure they've been running about enough to make them tired...perhaps this is same for girls. Is she having nightmares? And has become scared to sleep? My eldest is afaid of the dark so can't stand not having a light on in the room. Hope you get some peace soon. If it gets really bad / doesn't change - Kids First Clinic on Al Wasl might be able to help -they've got loads of professionals there who can help with such problems....we've beein using the O.Ts there to great effect. edited by sueg on 08/02/2012
