9month old milk requirements

Hi ladies,

I was wondering... I have a 9 month old and she has 3 bottles per day of formula (210ml) plus solids. As far as I understand by the time they reach 1 year they should be on 1 bottle per day? That means within 3 months I need to drop two bottles.

What is the daily requirement for a 9 month old and when do I drop the 2 feedings... Also which one do your drop first? Morning, noon or night?

Thanks

My DD is 9 1/2 months old and we had a check up with her doc last week and I asked this exact question. In our case, DD loves solids - can't get enough of them and her diet is varied - chicken, beef, veal, lamb, tuna, turkey, salmon etc with all sorts of fruits and vegetables. She also has yoghurt and cheese. I mention her diet as the doc said babies with varied diets will be less interested in milk by this age. Although it is important to ensure a 9 month old gets milk, the doc said she is getting enough nutrients and vitamins from her other foods. She is on about 600ml per day and takes three solid meals with snacks in between. Hi Susan - have you tried diluting the purees with your DD's milk? We started with very milky purees which might help? Hi M... yes tried mixing in with milk. She didn't like it at that stage. Seemed to prefer straight up, and had a good spell for 2-3 week in between. Now its back to spitting everything except the occasional biscuit and piece of other finger food. Maybe I'll try milky purees again and see if there's any look.

That's correct op..they should be eating a balanced diet so they won't need as much formula. At 12 months they can start having cows milk before bed and wake up time. Or if they don't take to cows milk u can continue on formula. I would drop the midday feed so they are just eating and drinking water during day. So only milk on wake up and before bed....my eldest went straight to cows milk and would drink that as she was eating a health diet...my middle child hated cows milk so she had formula in morning and evening until she was 2 years old as she loved it :@ but she would drink it in a beaker I try to wean them off the bottles as well after 1 years old ..the earlier you do it the easier it is...

I think only 210mL of milk at 12 months is a bit on the low side actually. I still BF so no idea how much my toddler takes but I read that it should be more like 400ml-800ml at the 12 month mark. I wouldn't stress about dropping milk feeds at this point, they drop them themselves when they are ready. What you might want to do though is switch from the bottle to a cup for some of the feeds as its better for their teeth, many mums seem to phase out the bottles by the 12 month mark but still give the milk, just via a cup. My guy 20 months has now naturally dropped his mid-day feeds, is ambivalent about his night feed and is insistent on his morning feed so I think that will be the last to go. I would drop them in when and in whatever order is easiest for you and your baby

Ooooo Niccy good one. Don't have any advice for you but i'd be interested in hearing views too. Mine just turned 8 months and has about 800ml (27 ounces) most days. In smaller bottles though because she was a refulx-er and prefers smaller meals. She really isn't a good eater of solids. I've tried everything to get her to eat, Tried purees and the BLW route but she just doesn't seem interested. She'll eat some finger foods off our plates (I cheat and put some baby friendly stuff :D). But its literally 2 nibbles and bored. So i still keep mealtimes and offer her something but don't overdo it. Tried cutting back milk so she'll be hungry but that doesn't work either, she just goes without and wakes at night for milk. And based on what I've read for the first year, milk is primary nutrition and the rest is just to explore and learn to eat which she's doing; but very slowly. So decided not to stress. Is that ok? Is there something I should be doing differently like sticking to the cutting of milk etc? *confused*
