Hello Ladies,
Will be very brief as need to do a school run...

My son, 2.5 has become very clingy after my daughter was born 3.5 months ago. He was ok-ish for the first 1-2 months and then gradually started to wake up at night many time (now sleeps with me as couldnt cope with getting up for him as well as the baby), often wont have his dad (or anyone else), only wants me, often wont let me leave the room - follows immediately even though was busy, now refuses to go to school (says wants to stay at home) to the park with the maid etc. To feed the baby i HAVE to have someone occupy him, otherwise he becomes very disruptive.
I know its normal, I have ideas as to why he does it and I have been trying (from the very beginning) to be sensitive to his needs and satisfy them (RE the new baby) but Im getting to the point when Im really fed up with this behaviour and its clear my 'gentle' approach doesnt seem to work. Or waiting it out the only way?
Could I ask you to share your experiences, if you have any?
Much appreciated.
Regards
Anna

I would wait it out. What worked for us is DH started spending more time with DS and having special activities together that made him feel special. DH once spent two weeks sleeping on DS floor under a McQueen tent as they were 'camping' and doing big boy stuff (no girls allowed!). Took him out for an ice cream, took him bicycle riding in the park, went to dragonmart bought him a new bicycle as he is now a big boy. Just him and his dad. That helped a lot. You need to discuss this with your DH as he needs to get more involved.

It may not be a reaction to a new baby...It may be possible that someone it's bullying him at nursery (kids, teacher assistant, teacher...)

Hi AnnaKam, Sorry your having a hard time. When DD2 was born DD1 was about the same age as your two. I use to have activities for her to do like arts and crafts or a special movie when i was feeding to help distract. Also perhaps allocating an hour or two every day for mummy / son time. When your DD is sleeping or your maid can watch her, take DS out, talk about his day ect and then later you can say i need to spend some mummy and bubby time now ect. Also perhaps trying to get him to help and having him get things for the baby and interact more with bub. Also family time, "we are all playing on the carpet together", "show bub this toy" ect. This can help bonding as a family as opposed to this baby it taking my mummy away mentality. Its tough at first but i think he has now realised your DD isnt going anywhere and the novelty has worn of now he is just pushing his boundaries. Im sure it will get easier with time too. HTH
