Hi Ladies, My LO had a terrible night last night, perked up a bit during the day but is miserable again tonight. I took her to the doc' this morn and he reckons it's a side effect of teething.I didnt realise they get this ick from teething. She doesn't have any teeth yet. Anyway just wondered if any of u ahve been thro' this and if so what did u do to ease the symptoms??Thanks

as far as I recall, you have to wait until they are a couple of months old for baby nurofen - which rather supports the idea that it is not quite as innocuous as baby paracetamol. trouble with calpol is it clearly tastes too good (mine used to get very upset if the other one had some and they didn't) - just inviting enterprising children to try swigging the bottle!

actually I just googled that, it looks like calpol has other ingredients that were banned (not the paracetamol) http://www.diaryofafirstchild.com/2010/04/20/calpol-what-every-parent-should-know/ in Australia they sell baby-panadol (in NZ its called Pamol) which I guess doesn't have all the e-numbers, anyway point being buy a paracetamol alternative over the Nurofen if you can manage. M1dono teething shouldn't cause vomiting, I think its far more likely your LO has a virus. Lots of fluids (milk that is) and rest/cuddles should help.

Our DD was on Calpol too. We recently went to Sydney and ran out whilst there. When we visited the pharmacy, we were told Calpol had been banned in Australia due to its concentration and negative effects on babies. They recommended baby Nurofen as the best alternative - perhaps the Nurofen mixture in Oz is different to the one here but the more important point was that Calpol had been banned. Must say DD coughed a lot every time we gave her Calpol and has responded well to Nurofen. Calpol (tylenol,pamol,panadol) is just paracetamol, paracetamol is generally regarded as the safest option for pain relief for small babies (and for mums while pregnant). I think you were mis-informed.

M1dono - just want to say that Colic Calm is for wind/colic etc, not for teething....hope your little one is better soon x Thanks SydneyGal - Colic Calm is really helpful : ) BTW, the packaging says it is helpful for teething too - maybe it's one of those "all in one" magic potions. Whatever the case, really glad it's working so thanks again : )

thanks, will order the colic calm..but for now I guess it's aprt and parcel of this phase.... Thanks might order some colic calm and keep her as comfortable as possible for now...she has not settled yet tonight (10pm) and is normally asleep b 7! Just to note, when I told her doc today I had been giving her Nurofen, he said to change to calpol as nurofen can be hard on baby's tummy...

hello...my daugher is 8 months now..she had same symptoms too..it is a side effect of teething..but not vomitting..i am applying dentinox on her gums to relieve pain..it is recommended from birth onwards..in fact while teething, babies feel stressed (much of pain)..it is affecting their immune system by decreasing the immunity..so they will be able to get more infection as negatif side effect..and an approprioate follow up (throat swab) is needed..good luck..and enjoy every step of your baby's development..:)

Hi M1dono What I thought was one first tooth turns out to be two bottom teeth at the same time for my 6 month old DD! Yes, we have been on the receiving end of similar symptoms. She has been increasingly difficult to settle at night (just spent about an hour trying to put her to sleep), is hoarse and generally irritable. I am using Bonjella for babies, Nurofen for babies on really bad nights and am trialling Colic Calm for the second night (recommended by SydneyGal). First night on Colic Calm was a miracle - she woke once during the night and managed 10 hours altogether. You can buy Colic Calm in the US and UK (perhaps other countries too). I ordered mine on EBay and it arrived within 10 days. Good luck : )
