I was amusing myself yesterday watching daft comedy videos (animals doing silly stuff and the like?) on youtube while my DH watched rugby and was horrified when I came across videos made by parents which involved scaring the life out of young babies, including newborns. They included dads making sudden loud noises, wearing scary masks and jumping out at tiny babes in arms. What sickened me more was that these parents laughed as they filmed their tiny babies screaming in fear. I am no use at transferring stuff so can't show an example. Please tell me that this is not some new fangled method of giving babies strong hearts as some were claiming! :(

This is horrible and I do not understand what people get out of this. I just came across a Barney video which was all fine until I started playing it for my daughter and instead of I love you, you love me it was saying a F...you , you F... me. Horrible! luckily My DD has no idea what this means but I was shocked. Yes, you can report the video, which I did.

Given the age and emotional maturity of the babies you mention, it truly is child abuse, sad to think a person let alone a parent could ever see humour in making a newborn cry, given most parents feel almost physical pain at the sound of their own child in distress. Same sort of people that frighten/abuse animals for fun I'm guessing. :(

yes ive seen the videos you are talking about. I too was amusing myself with baby giggling videos when these ones appeared in the right hand side of the screen. There was one of a dad holding his (maybe) 3 month old daughter and making her smile then doing a "scary" laugh and making her cry - what a shame. Yes, I saw that one too and the baby's petted lip looked cute but the cry that followed was heartbreaking. We've all done things that accidentally scare our babies, dropping something, sneezing or coughing. These make the baby startle then cry but we are quick to comfort. This deliberate scaring is abusive IMO. I may just try and report these Natalie.

YouTube has the facility to flag videos as innapropriate, but who would see that they're flagged. If you could report them with comments, this would be better. What they are doing could be considered child abuse, but to some, these types of acts are funny. With just about everything going on line live so quickly these days, it's becoming more difficult to control or to choose what you want to see or don't want to see.

Glad to hear voices of reason. I was moved to tears watching one horrible one where the dad had his baby son lying on his legs (he looked about 6 weeks or so) The baby was looking up at his dad and the moron suddenly roared in his wee face. The look of shock was followed by the saddest sounding baby cry I have ever heard broke my heart. I am so flaming angry as I know how desperately my own DD and her DH would love to have a baby but have infertility issues. I loved the days when I had my 2 babies and it beggars belief that the very people who should be protecting and cherishing these wee mites would want to deliberately scare them. Sorry, rant over!!
