Can anyone help? Have been ttc for a year now and nothing is happening. Have been to see Dr. Ekaterina at City twice and she keeps telling me that it is not a prob until we have been ttc for 2 years and nothing is happening. However, i am in my mid 30s and dont want to wait another year to see "what happens". She also suggested a test where i need to spend the day in hosp and they inject dye into my tubes to see if they are blocked but i havent even had any blood tests or anything done yet so should I not have that checked first? I know in my home country, they do blood tests after 3-6 months of nothing happening and consider potential "problems" after 1 year so it is a little frustrating here....
Could anyone pls suggest how to go about getting these tests done or where and / or who would be the best dr to see? any suggestions gratefully received!

thanks so much ladies. its good to be able to talk about stuff like this. i dont have any friends in the same boat so feel pretty alone when it comes to this. i was ovulating quite late in my cycle - day 16 came up positive on the tests and then my cycles ranged from 25 days to 33 days. before coming off the pill i was 28 days to the point where i could tell you exactly what time in the day AF would arrive but that has all changed since coming off the pill. i know that a short luteal phase can be a problem so i started taking agnus cactus and even tried vit b6 but it doesnt seem to have regulated my cycles. i have lost 10kgs since new year in case weight was a prob and have been eating very healthy the last 3 months, practically no alcohol, exercising etc but nothing seems to be working. i wanted to look into acupuncture too so if you have a number for the lady you used id be ever so grateful. any indications you can give on the self fertility massage would also be gratefully received. i am trying to stay positive but every month its so disappointing. you know exactly what i mean, im sure. ive tried everything from smep to dtd every 2 days from day 10 to day 20. then they say that the less you think about it the more chance it will happen so stopped charting everthing in an effort to focus less on it. think i will start charting my temp from this month and will see how that goes. they say it takes 3 months for it to be any sort of an indication so that had put me off before but wish i had started before now! thanks so much ladies for getting back to me. trying to stay positive!

Hi LIL, I cannot rate Dr. Nataliya Petrova @ the Cooper Clinic highly enough. In the beginning I was seeing a someone at City hospital but being told to wait 'another' year as I am not in my mid 30's didnt seem right. DH had his tests done and they came back fine in the end. When I first saw Dr. Nataliya Petrova, I explained my worries with her and straight away she said, 'why should you have to wait' - totally agree, after that she sent me for blood tests. HSG scan and put me on meds. I think I had to wait a few weeks for my appointment but it was well worth it :) http://www.cooperhealthclinic.com/index.htm

Hi LIL, Totally understand how difficult it can be...I had a M/C when I first fell pregnant after coming off the pill but then it took about 2 and a half years before I conceived again. I'd pretty much given up and was about to go start fertility treatment at Conceive clinic in Sharjah when I finally got pregnant. Have faith! Not too difficult to get an appt with Dr Sant, she is in her own clinic which helps and the waiting time is never very long. When you did the ovulation tests, what days were you ovulating on? And did you also notice how long your luteal phase was (days after ovulation)? Anything under 10 can indicate a problem with the luteal phase and progesterone. Would highly recommend you read TCOYF and also try doing the temping, it really does help identify any potential issues (and is cheaper than using the ovulation kits!). I also did acupuncture with Dr Ou (she comes to your house and is very knowledgeable about fertility) and she helped me sort out my cycles and she could see the problem spots on my charts (temps rising slowly after ovulation and late ovulation). I would also recommend cleaning out your diet as much as possible, eat lots of fruit and veg (organic if possible), lean proteins and whole grain carbs and PLENTY of water. I pretty much also cut out alcohol and caffeine too. Both you and hubby can also take a good multivitamin. The last thing I did was a self-fertility massage in the 2 months before I became pregnant which was easy to do and done from end of period to ovulation. I would be happy to email you the instructions if you like - just email me on caterina underscore strano at yahoo dot com dot au. Not sure if it helped or whether it was a combination of all the things I was doing...or simply divine timing but I do believe it helped. Try and stay positive if you can - you will get there. LOADS of baby dust your way. x

Hi SydneyGal, thanks so much for the recommendation. we are arranging for DH to have the tests done this month. during about 3-4 months i wsa using ovulation tests and 2 or 3 out of the 4 months gave me positive results which kind of assured me and i have not been using them since. this month i am going to start using them again to make sure that i am still ovulating. its good to know that some hospitals do the basic tests as i was very surprised that the dr i was seeing had not suggested them. do you know if it is easy to get an appointment with Dr Sant? I must give them a call this week and also buy that book. i have heard a lot about it. if there are any other pointers you can give me i would appreciate it - its so disheartening :(

Hi LIL, I would highly recommend my ob/gynae Dr Rosalie Sant at the Primavera Medical Clinic in Healthcare City - http://primaveraclinic.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=frontpage When I was still trying we went through a range of testing, starting with blood tests on Day 3 (FSH/LH) and the Progesterone test (7 days after ovulation). I also did the HSG you described below (to check tubes) and an AMH test which is blood test which is more accurate than FSH in showing your ovarian reserve. It is also work checking your DH and his sperm count early on as alot of the time this can be the issue and is alot less invasive than the tests we have to go through. Are you doing anything else for your fertility like basal body temperatures? I would also recommend doing this (check out the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility) as this could also show you if you are ovulating and just simply not doing it at the right time of the month. Having a few cycles to show the doc can also really help with identifying any potential problems if there are any. HTH!
