Hi ladies,
I was just wondering which brand of baby cereals here in Dubai are good? Apart from the obvious Cerelac.

I saw a brand called Baby Royale in Union Co-op which is all organic, and has oats porridge too, for 4m+. I've heard its better to start from oats since it wont give constipation.

Any thoughts on brands? Or does it not really matter?

p.s. I know its best to wait till 6 months etc so please dont make this thread about that! I just want to know about your experience with the different brands :)

I agree with kiwispiers, there's no need to give cereals if you are hesitant. Lightly steamed pureed ripe pears are very easy to digest. Butternut squash is good too. If you would like to give cereal, The Organic Shops in Dubai Mall and The Greens stock some good brands. As for the whole waiting for six months thing, that's outdated advice now anyway. Babies are ready when they are ready, you are the best judge of that and there is no magic age.

if you are worried about constipation, consider not giving cereal at all. I never gave any baby cereals to my son and never had constipation issues. If you are breastfeeding then make sure you give breastmilk at the same time as baby rice as this contains an enzyme that breaks down the starch (and therefore avoids constipation), formula doesn't have this, so you need to be more careful for ff babies. Oats can be contaminated with gluten, and I found oats really gave my baby reflux so be wary if you have a reflux baby. If you are giving baby cereal, since it has very little nutritional value, make sure it has vitamins added, otherwise meat and non starchy vegies, as well as ripe fruits are good first foods, no need for cereals.

I'm not a fan of Cerelac, as it contains sugar I believe. Holle is very good, you can find it in Geant and other hypermarkets.
