Hi - just had a baby boy 2 wks ago in Dubai, have got an arabic & english birth certifiate attested and translated at Ministry of Foreign affairs. Now trying to get it attested at British Embassy and also register the british citizen birth at the embassy. New website says make an appointment, but I've called them and no-one answers the phone, just information and telling us to go to the website.

Has anyone recently done this and can please advise how you did it? Do I just turn up at the embassy? Any advise really appreciated! :)

Hi, we registered the birth there a few weeks ago. You can just turn up without an appointment, but there are specific opening hours Sun - Thurs 8-11. You also need your passport to enter the embassy. There is a list of documents you need to register the birth, make sure they are originals, this is taken from the list they gave me: -babies local Arabic birth certificate and English translation -British parents full birth certificate (which includes parents details) copies can be ordered from www.gro.gov.uk or parents naturalisation/registration certificate where applicable ( if both parents aren't British) -parents marriage certificate (plus translation where necessary) -divorce documents (if applicable) -domicile questionnaire (more marriages conducted under Sharia Law) -both parents passports -child's passport (if you have one already) fees: birth registration 630 dhms birth certificate 390dhms I made the trip all the way over there and it turned out my husbands birth certificate was a photocopy, was not happy with him! Although we easily ordered a replacement from the govt website and it arrived a week later. There is no ATM there and you need to pay cash so take it with you. It takes 5 days for the birth certificate to be processed, but anyone can pick that up so long as you give written permission and they take their passport. Hope this helps! x
