I have read on numerous forums to put foil in the crib/cot to deter our cat from sitting in it as cats apparently don't like the texture of foil....hmmm, ours loves it!! So next step is a cat net. Has anyone seen these in Dubai? I saw them lots in the UK but not here :(
TIA

Hi I agree with kts, it's surprising the behaviour of my mog-when we got him from the RSPCA they said we were best to not have kids or other pets...which we didn't at the time. 7 yrs later and my mog has adapted to both another cat and a baby well. Was aloof at the beginning but is happy for my boy to grab handfuls of fur and tug now. I think it's because mog gets a fuss every time he's good in the presence of our bubs. I hope the net reference below at bsafe helps-realistically the cats will only go near the net a couple of times before realizing its not stable and move away. Like us, before having babies we were adamant to get the net but it's not really used as we keep the cats out. Similarly, I felt more guilty about keeping mog out of our room but pets adapt easily and yes, probably prefer getting a good nights rest! Good luck ladies and babies! Cuddles to the mogs:)

Hi-quick update, no nets at toys r us Times Square but bsafe at Times Square has a cot net for insects which would probably work just the same? It's 100aed.

Hi ladies, I have 2 very pampered and spoilt kitties and faced the same problem as you. My cats sleep with us every night and if I try to shut them out then one of them will scream all night and jump up and down on the door handle trying to get back in!! I brought a cat net for the moses basket and for the cot. I brought them from amazon and they are a brand called clippasafe. Here is a link http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_0_7?url=search-alias%3Dbaby&field-keywords=cat%20net&sprefix=cat+net%2Caps%2C708 They are not very expensive and are very light so don't cost much if you use shop n ship. I ended up not actually using mine!! My baby slept in my bed for the first week as she would not sleep anywhere unless she was touching me (nightmare!!!) which left me with no choice other than to shut the cats out of my bedroom :( I was more upset than them and actually they were quite glad to sleep in another room as they could actually get some sleep (they looked knackered!!) hahaha. My baby then slept in my room in her moses basket until she was 4 months old and then went into her own room. The cats have been back in with me since :) I would offer to sell you my nets but I have baby no 2 due in a few weeks and think I should keep hold of them just in case I need to use them this time around. (really dreading the thought of shutting my cats out at night again). I never needed to use the nets during the day as my cats were happy to lie next to the moses basket and never attempted to get in it with her. They were (and still are) very protective of her and if she cried whilst I was in a different room one would stay next to the moses basket and the other would come and find me!! I have always encouraged them to snuggle up with her when she was small and welcomed them on my lap when I used to feed her (until my lap wasn't big enough for a cat and a baby!!!) They now have a great relationship and my daughter who is now 21 months old adores her sisters. She follows them round everywhere and although we try to get her to be gentle with them she will often grab a handful of fur or drag them across the floor and they are not bothered (they would probably bite me if I did that to them!!) So please don't worry about what will happen to your pampered kitties when baby arrives as i'm sure they will have a fantastic bond with the baby which can grow into a great friendship just like my three girls :) Good luck with your new babies everyone.

Glad this is something that came up as we will need to think about this too as we have 4 cats (including one very spoilt queen bee) so if they are hard to find here will bring one or two back from the UK. Johjoh, I'm heading to the UK early Oct if yoy don't manage to find one by then, happy to bring an extra one back for you? Oh Bella! That would be great! What date do you travel? I will let you know if I don't find one. I am so miffed because I kept picking them up in Mothercare and putting them down, thinking 'Noooo, more to carry home!'

watching with interest ladies, let us know how you get on! we have one tubby pampered puss, she is not a fan of loud noises, and when a baby cried on the tv a few days ago, she looked utterly disgusted! so i'm hoping she'll take one look at the baby and give it a very wide berth!

Thanks Maxmistry! Yes, the reasons you gave for using the cat net is exactly why I want one. I will look in Times Square...I forgot about Babies R Us and I will look into the B-Safe shop. Already looked in BabyShop, C4, M&P, Mothercare, Spinneys & Geant. Our kitty is inside at night. He is about 11 months old now and we have kept him in the maids room and laundry room at night so I think we will carry on doing that. During the day, as you say, I think it is going to be cushions on baby's rocker and maybe before we find a cat net I will have to put cushions in the carrycot and crib (haven't got a cot yet). Please do post of you remember where you got it but in the meantime, thanks soooo much for your advice x

Hi johjoh Congrats! We had a similar thought-foil seemed impractical after baby would arrive so we brought back a cat net from uk...I have def seen them here in Dubai but trying to remember where....think it was baby shop? Or maybe B-safe in Times Square? Or babies r us? Urgh sorry it will come back t me and I'll repost. Realistically we use our net if we're going to not use the cot f a while but want it ready (ie cot with net in nursery, while bubs slept with us in the Moses basket in our room) or when we are on hols. But month before bubs arrived we had to keep our (very spoilt) mog out of our room to get used to it and keep him out now baby has arrived unless I'm in the bedroom getting ready or getting up. Bubs arrived half the weight of our mog so though we hoped that mog and baby would be safe together, we couldn't risk it. Mog showed little interest with baby but kept sitting in the bouncer/on playmat/carseat/buggy/on baby blankets etc nd covering stuff in fur so every night we put cushions on stuff to stop bubs clothes and body being furry every time he's touching anything. Now bubs is in his cot in our room, like us it's unlikely that you'll put the net on between feeds/nappy changes/cries for a cuddles in the night so it'll be left off as you'll be knackered. Though I felt guilty at first of our poor mog being chucked out each night, I started each morning feed/getting up with letting mog in during the feed/getting up and giving him a few treats, and he's adjusted well:) good luck and will let you know when I remember for definite where to get the net.
