Cloth Nappies at Nursery

Hi Ladies!
For all the cloth nappy (diaper) users out there - what has your experience been with nurseries allowing them (or not) to be used?

My older DD used cloth nappies at her nursery for a full year without a single problem or complaint from the school (this was 2011/12). Now that my younger DS is in nursery (a different one - we moved) they are claiming that the Dubai Municipality will not allow them to use them because of hygiene issues....all soiled nappies must be removed from the premise within one hour, is what they claim. They don't want to risk a fine by the inspectors.

Since my son exclusively uses cloth nappies (except on long trips without access to washing machines) I much prefer to avoid disposables if possible. I have the "modern" cloth diapers where all they need to do is put it on exactly like a regular nappy and put the used one in a bag for me to take home.

I get a feeling that the nursery director was not being completely honest with me and would love to hear from any others with experience with this!

I used them with DS last year in his nursery with no problems. I was using liners, so all the soiled nappies were not much of a problem. Liners flushed down the toilet and the nappy in the nappy sack. Now, at 2 my DS refuses to wear c;loth diapers. I think he finds them bulky. So, its pull ups in nursery and potty (no diapers) at home. He's trained but in a new set up/ environment (going to nursery after 2 months vacation) mishaps happen, so I prefer sending him with pampers.

Thanks Apricot, maybe you are right that there has been a change recently in the regulations. I guess it is not worth the fight but, I just wanted to know if anyone else dealt with this recently since it was a change from when my DD went just two years ago. Also, the nursery did use the cloth nappies with my DS for two weeks without any problem, I didn't have to explain anything except what to do with the soiled ones (which they have to put in a plastic bag whether they are cloth or not). I don't think the teacher / helper minded, I think the director is only worried about a fine from KHDA. And I never lost a single one when my DD used them. Sadly, since the switch to disposables my son had awful diaper rash...maybe coincidence but, still annoying,

Nurseries under more regulation now, the nursery my children attend is now regulated by KHDA and new policies have been implemented. I completely understand the nursery director's reluctance to support the presence of soiled cloth diapers on her premises. I "gave in" and sent DS2 to nursery in a Pampers pull up ( I would change him into a new Pamper 5-10 min before leaving for nursery), along with a stack of Pampers pull ups to be used in nursery. Once home, he would be changed back into a modern cloth pocket diaper. I appreciate your principles, but the potential hassle involved in convincing nursery director, teacher, teachers aide, the nursery support staff to use them, and use them properly, return soiled diapers to you, keep tabs on returned soiled diapers (because those diapers ain't cheap or easily available) would, for me, outweigh the various benefits of cloth diaper usage during that time period my child spends at nursery.
