Compulsory vaccinations for kids??

Hi all
Would really appreciate your advice and anecdotes here. Our kids cannot have any vaccinations for a number of reasons - and have never had any. Recently, I have noticed articles stating that some vaccinations have become compulsory in the UAE - and this may mean we have to cancel our plans to move there. Here is an example of one, which states that the laws apply to expats too:

Now I know that in some countries we've lived, the written law and what is actually enforced are two different things. And I've also noticed, for example, that the health declaration for entry to al Khubairat school includes an option to state that your kids have not been vaccinated, for whatever reason.

So ladies, does anyone have any experience of this? Has anyone experienced compulsory vaccination?

Many thanks

W

Hello I notice that it has been long time for this good topic. I would like to ask if there is any update on this case. I am planning to move to abudhabi with my family and kids are not vaccinated. I appreciated if anyone can update us on current situation in UAE. All the best.

All schools require copies of vaccination records for their files, but i've never heard of a child being denied a place because they didnt have a particular vaccine. As the schedule differs from country to country, it is very likely that not all kids will have had the same shots. My two have never had BCG (was not part of the schedule in the UK when they were born), but it is considered 'essential' here. My daughter had Hep B jab before we moved, but my son was too young so our GP in the UK wouldn't give it to him, forgot to get it done here when he was 'old enough' so he's never had it. Neither have had chicken-pox jab, but both have had the pox. No-one at school has ever asked us about it or insisted we get it done.

Pretty sure there are no forced vaccinations here in the UAE. We stopped vaccinating our son at 6 months old (as our views on vaccines changed) and soon expecting our 3rd child here and he/she will be vaccine free (for several years at least). There are plenty of parents in the UAE who either postpone vaccines, pick&choose or refuse them all together. Getting into schools might be a problem at times...just like in many other countries...but no worries nobody will stab your kids against your will! :)

Being from the sub-continent...few vaccinations are a must for our baby...and for my elder 10yr daugher when we adopted her and took her for nursery admission one thing which we were asked upfront was her updated vaccinations card. So am sure its a major thing out here... esp Hep B
