Day time naps

MY DD is 6 months. Last month she was taking 3 naps a day in her cot with little fuss. In the last month we moved and went away and now I can not get her to sleep in her cot in the day. Within seconds of walking her in her buggy she is asleep, but when I put her down in her cot she gets completely wired, then starts screaming and breaking her heart crying. I try to settle her but after about 40 mins of this I give up and take her for a walk. Does anyone have any tips or should I just be more consistant and persistent?

My 9 mth old DS was like this a bit when we were in Oz, I ended up putting a t-shirt I had been wearing the day before in the cot with him. It helped him settle really quickly and when he was settled I moved it out so he couldn't get tangled with it. Alternatively if she has a attachment blankie that you have been using, stuff it down your top for a few hours or sleep with it tonight and hopefully tomorrow she takes to it and sleeps better.

Thanks for your advice, I know in the long term naps go, but in the short term I want her to sleep in her cot so I have a moment or two to do things in the apartment. I will try and spend more time in her room and cot, and introduce a bit more of a ritual at nap time. Fingers crossed she takes to it and soon :)

DD would never settle for a day-time nap in her cot (despite being absolutely great self-settling at night) and would only settle with movement... DS on the other hand will be out like a light (within 2 minutes) if I put him in his cot at the right time, but will resist until he literally conks out if we're out and about. The big thing is "does it bother you?" Day-time naps will eventually drop and by the age of 2 or 3, they won't be having any regular day-time naps. As long as you're not having trouble at night, and day-time is kind of fine, then it shouldn't really matter.

Hey there... I read in the baby whisperer that sometimes this can happen if LO feels unfamiliar with their cot. Suggestion there is to put her in the cot during the day when she's awake and happy, with some toys if necessary to keep her occupied. You stay in the room tidying etc. and gradually when she gets used to it, leave the room for a few mins etc etc. Idea is that if she sees her cot as a 'happy' place when awake that will help her to feel comfortable when going in there to sleep too. Other thing you could try is doing a nap time 'ritual' in the same way you do the bed time wind down, but shorter. Maybe read a book together or something so she knows what's coming? Good luck - I know how crucial daytime naps are to keep the night time on track!
