The headline on this article is a bit sad and clearly judgemental. Plenty of fathers enjoy co sleeping and encourage it. No idea about this particular research but there is research to show that sleeping close to a newborn helps regulate their breathing and sleep patterns. It is not recommended that a baby sleep in a separate room until they are at least 6 months old. Anyone who bed shares should obviously make sure they are careful with the bed set up, just as you would be with a cot. Babies (either bed sharing or in cots) shouldn't be near pillows, duvets or on a very soft mattress as these could be a suffocation risk. I co sleep with my 16 month old and I agree with the pp, it certainly warms my heart ;) edited by kiwispiers on 31/01/2014
