do you need your marriage certificate attested in order to register a birth?

I am not sure what documents I need to register the birth of my son in 8 weeks time. does anyone know if I need my marriage certificate attested in order to register a birth? I am working so on my own visa, not husbands, and therefore never had it attested. Curious as i need to get it DHL'd to the UK and stamped etc pretty quickly if it DOES need attesting. Any other advice on what docs I need to register the birth would be VERY gratefully receieved.

I've just been through this process and we did not need our marriage certificate attested. DH and I gave our unattested marriage certificate, birth notification (from the hospital) and other docs to baby steps who got an Arabic birth certificate and an English translation. They did this quickly. As DH and I are both British we wanted DD to have British birth certificate too so we (not baby steps as you have to do this yourself) took both the birth certificates and other docs to British embassy, paid the fee and obtained a British birth certificate about a week later. In order to get DD's passport, we sent DD's British birth certificate, fee and photos of DD (yeah that was fun trying to get a photo of a week old baby that was suitable for passport!) to Germany. In order to get DD's visa we gave unattested marriage certificate and her passport plus the usual million photos the government agencies seem to need to DH's company's PRO and this was done within 2 days. This was for DIFC. The only aspect we have required attested marriage certificate for is for me to go on DH's visa. We did not need it attested for any of DD's stuff. We gave it to a company called Index who get it notarised in UK, then legalised up to the UAE Embassy via the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Again, too much of a drama to get it done ourselves. Index collected the marriage certificate and the fee and they do the rest. Much easier but again not cheap! Baby steps was pricey but worth it! Ours (last year) went to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in Milton Keynes then the UAE Embassy in London, but I think you can do both at the same time to make it quicker if you let them know and pay the appropriate fee. I'm pretty sure either the FCP website or the UAE Embassy one has all the details. Then, when it got back here, we had to give it to DH's PRO to get something else done to it over here.

For DD1 (born 2008) didn't need an attested marriage certificate, for DD2 (born 2010) we did. ooh there you go; they are so random here....

Are you sure? only because I have never had my marriage cert attested, and was able to register both my kids no problem (06 and 07).

You need attested marriage certificat to register birth of your LO. There are companies which help with this. We used babysteps - efficient and effective http://www.babystepsdubai.com/ HTH
