My DD is coming up on 6 months next week and for the past month or so, she has taken to squealing at the top of her lungs! Now, she has always been vocal and a bit of a dramatist, but this squealing is doing mine and my DH's heads in! She does it for fun, no crying involved! She puts her hands down by her side, has a bit of an Irish dance to herself on the floor and starts squealing! She is perfectly happy when she is doing it and at times makes herself hoarse from the over exersion! Is she normal? Is there anything I can do? Any advice much appreciated!

I was doing some shopping yesterday and sat down for a bit of lunch in a packed cafe. DD decided it would be fun to squeal at the top of her voice continuously and throw her 2 toys out of her pram every 25 seconds! Everyone was looking at me and I am sure they were thinking what a bad mother I am that I can't control my child. I know how my mind worked before DD came along, but what the heck, at least she wasn't crying, that would give people something to complain about!

DS ( 9m), went through a squealing stage at around 7 months ( as did all my kids)- BUT- he has now taken to barking like a dog at every given chance. Nice.

OK, shall I put it in prospective for you?! My 7 month old is not a squealer. He is a screamer. He thinks is utterly funny to scream on the top of his voice for like 10-20 seconds non stop and then have a good old giggle when Mummy is all over the place with worry/ embarrassment/ annoyed. How is that for a shopping trip/ lunch with the girls/ visit to the pediatrician's office in the waiting room???

So glad to know it's normal! At first I thought it was cute, but now about 6 weeks later, not so much! I was walking around a Mall the other day and she is squealing away to herself and everyone was glaring at me like I was pinching her or something :\: She also tends to do it the most when my DH is just home from work and is tired or sleeping! I swear she knows just which buttons to press to p1ss him off as he has no patience for her anyway!

Yes, we also have a squealer (7 m/o) she just started it last week, then a few days ago to my joy (not!) she discovered she could make a differend noise.... the breathing in as if she is choking - followed by a cough for that extra dramatical effect (the whole time smiling!) Dont have any advice - im just going to ride it out and hope the next noise she realised she can make is "mum" lol

pretty normal I think! My DS is about the same age and does the same thing, although he sounds more like a baby dinosaur LOL. Lots of the babies in my antenatal group all do the same thing too - they're discovering their lungs!! I think it's quite cute :P
