for over 3 months now i cant put him to sleep without rocking or patting him. daytime naps are fine,i just leave him in the cot and within 10 mins he is a sleep. Evening is a battle,.

we went home in july and have been back for over a month now.

he is also waking up twice a night and he used to sleep thru before i went home..

i night weanead him as well just before i left and had no problems, even back home it was fine. only when he was teething did i feed at night again, but that was for 3 days only. now if he wakes up after 3 am i have to feed him as he wont go back to sleep without.

back home he got his first tooth and learnt how to pull himself up,so i thought him waking at night was due to this. I also thought being in a new place was why i couldnt just leave him in his cot at night time and expect him to fall asleep on his own. but now im going crazy and dont now what to do..

hey summertime, I can't offer advice but just wanted to sympathise. My 20 week old DS went from a fab sleeper for the first 8-9 weeks to a real nightmare. I know we've got major sleep association issues, especially with his dummy and swaddle (we tried a sleeping bag at 3 months which had him waking every hour practically so now he's back in his swaddle but has to be weaned soon I know as he gets out of it easily...) and rocking....lately we've stopped the rocking and we're putting him down awake and patting his back to sleep, but still with dummy and swaddle. He can often sleep from 7 until around 11 where he feeds (although sometimes briefly wakes in between), but then from around 2-3am can be up every hour and needs all the crutches to get back to sleep....it's not hunger as I've tried feeding him which of course he'll take, but he still wakes so it doesn't make a difference. If one more person tells me that solids are the answer I will scream LOL. I've even tried and he is so not interested or ready yet. I've even taken to bringing him into bed with me around 4-5am as I'm at my parents place and he does sleep well after that but I don't want this to become the norm - I know cosleeping works for many but it's not what I want to do. I have a friend here whose 3 year old wont sleep unless in bed with her and her DH and I dont want that to be my future! I'm thinking we'll have to do some CIO at some point, although am dreading it I don't know what else to do. We're in Oz at the moment so am dreading the jetlag when we return but after that I think we're going to need some tough love...whether I'm strong enough to get through it is the issue though! I hope someone can give you some advice (and me too please hehe) and that these babies will start sleeping better soon :)

no dont think he is unwell...really dont know why he is wakening up and why so hard to put him to sleep, especially since day time naps are so easy!!! have tried to to play around with the timings, used to put him down for his first morning nap around 09-10,then second one around 2-3 and then bedtime between 6-8.. his naps would be 3 hours apart and bedtime between 3-4. then tried bedtime onnly 3 still the same. now im so tired i dont manage to get up with him in the morning at 06ish and my husband takes him at 06.30 before he goes to work and drops him in my bed around 07.15 when he needs to go.. then he plays around a bit and then falls asleep around 08 and sleeps for 40 mins until 09..we then cuddle and play and get up at 09.30 ..i then put him to sleep at 12 and then again for a short 20-30 min nap around 4..only started yesterday. last night he woke up at 03, 05 and then 06.30.. he used to wake up at midnight.. was still a nightmare to put to bed and my husband had to rock ,pat him to sleep.. not a fan of CIO but might have to try something similar as dont wont to create a bad pattern where he can only fall asleep if we rock him.. lately he also wants to nurse 4-5 times a day where before was only in the morning and before bedtime..

what time is bedtime and what time is naptime? you might need to tweak these.

is he unwell? Mine has just gone through this - although only for 1 month. We did the holiday home for august and when we got back DD got 2 teeth and learnt to roll over etc. she started getting up (when previously sleeping through) and wanted fed to go back to sleep. Eventually she just started sleeping again (this week!) of her own accord so we put it down to the bug that both DH and i had. You have to watch with babies that age that the rocking/feeding to sleep doesnt become the routine for them. does he take a dummy? I only fed mine for the 1st week before i started panicing about it becoming the norm for her so just gave her her dummy and sat with her until she slept. Also, could he be going through a growth spurt? in which case he is maybe waking through the night hungry? So up his food intake through the day? Sorry thats the best i can do. hope someone else has a proper answer for you. I find there is nothing more frustraiting than a baby who previously slept like a trooper to one who decided to get up 2-3 times a night.
