Hi I have been on them since February and have had no side effects that I know of. Am continuing to take them now as my treatment has stopped for a little while but as Hilsbils said there is a lot of info on line about them which I took a look at earlier and it all looks very positive so I am a fan and really hoping they will make the difference! Can't be long now until you start your ivf hilsbils. Lots of luck and babydust to you :)xx

Hi katrina, My doctor says she has had women who had very low egg supplies fall pregnant naturally on DHEA!! Seems to balance whatever was imbalanced before. I was worried about some of the symptoms I had read online but she assured me one has to be on it for a really long time, years, before it could have any symptoms. There are a lot of very interesting fertility forums online where women discus DHEA in great detail. Most of it is very positive. Since taking it my energy levels are up (whew) and I am actually less emotional. I am usually a big crier (think its hereditary) and I feel more robust somehow. More calm too.

Hello to all you lovely ladies, who are taking DHEA. I just have a question. I have been taking this as well as per Dr. P's advise for one month now. I heard/read alot that i should take DHEA for at least 3 months before the IVF procedure for it to have a significant effect. Now we are planning to do the IVF cycle in Dec 2012. Is it ok for me to continue taking it till then, which means 6 months of DHEA? Are there any side effects when taking it for long time? Or is it a good thing that im on it for 6 months before the IVF?

Hi Tinkerbell! Sorry I didnt reply earlier. Dh also has lazy swimmers Yes we are in the same boat. I have this horrible feeling that IVF will activate all my eggs and lIl run out. My doctors main concern seems to be egg quality when we are low on eggs. Gulp. I start on the nest period and so will be doing IFV end July to early August. Hi Bsqueak I got mine at the large pharmacy next to Waitrose in the Dubai Mall. It usually requires a prescription but the girl at the till didnt ask to see mine when I got it. If you head to the Organic in Dubai Mall they have a natural product which promotes the production of natural DHEA in the body in case youd prefer that or you cant get the pharmaceutical one. If you take it for long periods its meant to have some side effects but so far I fee fine. More energy overall, and also slightly less emotional and weepy - I feel a bit more calm / resilient! Apparently DHEA is the 'master hormone' for our bodies and helps to bring the endocrine system into balance, esp the reproduction hormones.

Hi Nickym1d I am reading at the moment and all reports are good except for one or two warnings where younger women have over responded to it if their natural levels of DHEA are actually ok. I presume these levels drop as we get older? Im going to keep checking. Some strong side effects too. What have you heard about it? We went and saw Dr Fakih a few weeks ago but I wanted many more answers / tests and information so I went and saw Dr Munira from Dubai Mall Medical centre and she was lovely. Spent an hour with me answering a million questions and very thorough compared with our brief 'lets jump right in with IVF and no info' 5 minutes at Fakih. Although I would still consider going to Fakih for the actual procedure but need to get as much information as possible before hand. For example.... Dhs sperm showed low motility, but Fakih didnt mention that the number of says abstinence has a huge effect on the test. I too have low ovarian reserve and i'm currently on DHEA for 3 month ( although i'm 35 years old and the test showed 0.5), DH also has low motility... in addition I also have endomertosis. I've been researching DHEA too and it seems the most popular medication for low ovarian reserve although there is no solid proof that it helps. I guess we'll just do what ever it takes and pray it works. P.S: i've been on DHEA for almost 3 weeks and so far no side effects. when are you planning to do your IVF hilsbils if you don't mind me asking Good luck xx

Hi ladies I was advised by my gynae/ fertlity doc today to get some DHEA at the health shop or pharmacy as it was especially good for someone older with reduced fertility. I am 40 now. Anyway, I had never heard this mentioned on the threads etc and did some research and found some really good information :http://forums.fertilitycommunity.com/infertility-support-forum/2020195974-dhea-poor-ovarian-reserve-ovarian-failure.html It seems to increase ones egg reserve and high pregnancy rates in tests conducted. Seems to help sperm too. I got mine in a large pharmacy and was told it usually requires a prescription but the girl at the shop said no problem if I didnt have on (I did but couldnt find it in my bag) Also, it seems to be a nutritional supplement and available in health shops overseas so fairly benign? Ill let you know how it goes. I presume that many of you may already be taking it? If its on prescription I wouldnt advise it unless you are older and struggling with depleted egg reserves or perhaps check with your doctor. Worth reading about online.
