Is growth scan / Doppler necessary?

Hi there,

I am due to do a growth scan / Doppler but my insurance rejected the doctor request as it is not a listed procedure.

It cost 800 to 1000aed and this is huge amount for us, what are the consequences if I don't go for the scan.

I am not a high risk, the gestational diabetes is well controlled. My anomaly scan is good and baby is within range.

The doctor would me like to do this as part of routine procedure for them.

You have done the most important anomaly scan, this one just skip it. Personally I would avoid as much as I can unless dr has real concerns. Its a money making business for hospitals to do u/s with every visit unless its high risk.

Thanks kiwispiers, They just told me that the scan is a routine procedure in city hospital. My last anomaly scan is as within range and all normal. Since then, she didn't check what's inside as she is relying on the result of the growth scan to tell her the numbers. But, I'm thinking maybe it can be done by a normal ultrasound and no need for a special scan. I already told them that my insurance will not cover it and hence will not do the same. What I will did, is to go a smaller clinic and will have another check from another Oby Gyne to check me and get the numbers my doctor is needed. TIA <em>edited by Hassli on 19/10/2012</em>

Not essential but I would get one if they are for any reason telling you your baby is too big, your fluid is low etc as these sorts of things can lead to an unnecessary c-section if the Drs ultrasound wasn't accurate enough (ie they might tell you your baby is big but then the growth scan shows its fine) I had one right before my VBAC, and it was helpful in convincing the Drs all was fine, but otherwise you might not bother.

Thanks Evelyn, I will try. I already done my anomaly scan which check all the organs and sizes too and thank God all are normal. I will definitely visit Iranian hospital to check with them and will bring the doctor request with me. Thanks a lot for the advice. :)

I don't know if you need to make in the same hospital/clinic, if not you can try Iranian Hospital it cost there 290AED ( I think this is a scan you are asking for with all details like baby weight,sizes, check if all organs are there & working). They will give you report then you can show to your Dr. Its little crowded there & you need to wait but 290 its not 1000 :).
