Hi ladies, my baby was born on the 4th (july) my milk hasn't come in yet and he's starving! I'm demand feeding him, his latch is fine just not enough there for him. What do i do?

Mine took 5 days with DS and I was utterly convinced it'd never come in. Then on day 5, wham, I wake up with the boob explosion. Happy feeding!

I am glad that finally he is settled don with a full tummy, but just don't worry: 1- as the ladies said previously, the delay 3-4 days is normal. just keep on 2- the amount your baby gets is what he needs. as long as BF is the only feeding way, I guess your body manages to give the baby all what he needs. "kiwispiers is right, women feed twins with no amount problem, just keep it up"

Thank you so much ladies! Managed to get him to calm down last night and we got some sleep. Problem is he's baby no 3 and was 4.475kgs when he was born, so just worried I won't be able to keep up. Size of your baby shouldn't be relevant (although can I just say OUCH ;)), your supply is entirely led by how much he demands. A big baby may need more milk and your clever body will produce more because he's demanding it. Congratulations!

women can feed twins, so long as you feed often an d effectively you should be fine, especially if you have breastfed 2 previous children.

Absolutely - it's still early days. Mature milk usually begins to come in within 72 hours, and it sometimes isn't immediately apparent even then. Baby's tummies are very, very small (5-7ml at birth), a perfect match for the amount of colostrum available, and they gradually grow to accommodate increasing amounts of milk as it comes in. What this means is that in the early days they need to feed little and often! Lots of baby cuddles, skin-to-skin as often as possible, with unlimited access to the breast will both help stimulate the hormones for milk production. Some mums find that it helps to spend the first couple of days in bed (both to rest up after the birth and to get milk production going). Enjoy your babymoon - and give the lovely mamas on here a shout or call/e-mail a bf helpline if you have any questions or other concerns as you get started. xx

Hi, According to all the books, 3-4 days is normal, AND it is normal for baby to lose weight in this time and then put more on. Meaning that, what you are able to give him now is not enough and he will be hungry. Don't give up. Ask your midwife/doc to confirm to reassure yourself, that's what they're there for. X

see if you can find a lactation consultant too, so she can give you the confidence you need and get that latch perfected, whatever you do don't give up, breastfeeding is so rewarding in the long run : ) wow congratulations on your new baby, and good luck with everything : )

Agree with thompson - it can generally take 3-4 days (this is the avg) so just keep demand feeding and eventually it will come in naturally. Don't give him a bottle as this will affect your milk supply and early days are critical to developing a good supply. He will be getting the best stuff (colostrum) now and believe me, your milk will come in soon!!!

Congrats! It has always taken around 4 days with me, it is really hard though but just stick with it as it does seem like you are starving them I can remember feeding every hour for 24 hours and still a starving baby, just hang on in there it will come in the next day or two
