Hi ladies, anybody suffered from this? does it actually go away after birth? i have been suffering from this post nasal drip for 2 months now along with congestion which is on and off and it seems chronic! I find myself gasping for air at night..

thank you for the advice, although I am sad to hear yours (Leen) didnt clear after childbirth. I am using the Neti pot and it does seem to help a little, have ran out of saline sachets which I am still looking for. I hadn't thought of the mouthwash so will give that a try as well. Feel very guilty using the nasal steroid spay that the doctor prescribed but its the only thing that helps the stuffiness and eases the drip a little.

I second Saline Nasal Spray as often as u want ( its a natural thing) Also pay special attention to your tonsils, are they enlarged? If yes ( and I have them too, and I snore and then the tonsils get red and inflamed - but not infected, as for that you would need antibotics...) you can try a few things: Buy a "tooth whitening" gargle like Plax or Listerine. Use it daily, but you need to gargle with them at least 15 seconds with your head up. I raise my head and let it sit on my throat 15 seconds and I use Plax - I can't stand Listerine for more than 5 seconds! Plax comes in a white bottle, got it at Spinneys in Motor City. The tooth whitening must have hydrogen peroxide in them and it will help kill the bacteria and reduce inflamation in your throat, and the saline solution will help keep the PH levels in order. This should help you breathe better.... HTH Good luck!!!

Mine went away afterwards but it wasn't maybe quite as bad as yours as I didn't struggle to breathe, just felt like I had a mild cold all the time and apparently snored :(. I found an air purifier/humidifier helped as the AC definitely aggravates it as does the dust. Clean out your ac filters as often as possible, eat lots of garlic, onions and chicken broth and avoid dairy. After the birth you can at least sleep on your tummy again which helps with the postnasal drip. If you can get your hands on a nasal irrigation system (basically a bottle you fill with warm saline and squirt up one nostril and it flows out the other), then they really, really help, sounds gross (and is gross really) but well worth it.

Had the drip all through my pregnancy, horrible, horrible, horrible. The bad news that it is still there 2 months after. However, it's more tolerable now since the nausea is gone. Try a saline nasal spray (cheapest and best as recommended by my Dr was ocean's spray). U can use it as many times as u wish. It'll loosen up the mucous so u can blow it out instead of it going back to your throat. Best wishes..
