we decided to test the car seat and took a ride one day but my DS (2 month old) was inconsolable! he cried alot with those pitiful eyes begging to take him off the seat. so we came back home from the parking! since i put him into the seat he showed his anger, scratched me and was stuck to his dad for some time.
did any of you faced any problems? i don't want to go out without him strapped in his car seat.so thinking of first swinging him in the car seat for some time to get the feel for it at home only then go and strap him. i would love to hear your experiences.
ps:my DS does not like any type of toys :) have tried several. he only likes wind chymes and ceiling lights!

i know about the safety of using the car seat that's why i havn't been out with him since. when we bought him home from hospital he was sleeping soundly in his car seat and one time we went for his 3 day general checkup. even then he didn't cried (sleeping and the hospital is just besides my home).i am against going out with baby on the lap, better to stay home.I hate it when people hold their child or let them stand in the front seat. I have everything-head protectors, extra padding on the side,etc.. anyways went for 25 min drive today and the swinging idea really worked.he was smiling in his seat at home and went all serious in the car but didn't cried :) i guess he needs to associate sitting in the car to his car seat strapped up.

Use the carseat instead of bouncer chair at home so that he will get used to the idea. Another thing, may be try planning your trips when he is about to sleep, so that he can fall asleep in the carseat which you can safely transfer into the car. You could also experiment to find toys/music that will sooth him and take away the attention from being in the carseat. Apart from that, lots of babies/kids cry in the carseats and you will have to just tune yourself off to get to your destination. If child is really inconsolable, stop somewhere (where it's safe) and take him on your hands for few minutes.

I would check the seat of the car seat to make sure nothing is hurting him. You MUST MUST MUST use a car seat every time your baby goes in the car, he will be asleep within minutes when you start driving. Also make sure you have a head protector for him.

What has your son been in the last 2 months if not the carseat? This is not really negotiable, if they are not in the carseat you can't drive the car, end of story. My son used to cry in his carseat as a newborn, we just had to ignore it and that is the only time in his life (he is now nearly 2) he hasn't been picked up if crying. I used to sit in the back with him while my husband drove, gave him a dummy, made sure the sun wasn't shining on his face and held his hand. Yes hang some chimes in front of him or hold them if you are sitting near him, your baby might like looking in a small mirror too, they don't really get interested in toys until they are older. But you just have to do this, because if you were to crash or if another car hit you from behind then you can not physically hold your baby and he will fly out of your arms and die in front of you, simple as that. There are youtube videos showing what will happen, even at low speeds. Your son is worth more than that, better he cries than dies. sorry to be so blunt but when I see mothers holding their babies in cars here it really upsets me, my cousins wife was killed in a car accident, her baby, strapped safely in her carseat, had not even a scratch, but has had to grow up without a mother.

Hi there, Both of my sons hated their car seat, the toddler still does and DS2 is also starting to scream when we go out. Scream or not the car seat is your baby's Safest option when going in the car. I think you are on the ball with getting him use to the car seat first at home then take him for short drives before attempting something longer. With my older son we timed our trips so that he would sleep whilst we were driving so went at nap time. We still do that for long drives also, if we go to Abu dhabi or al ain, we take him at nap time so we know he will sleep in the car for most of the trip. I think he actually gets car sick like I do. As for DS2 well he is 13 weeks and up until 3 weeks ago putting him in his car seat and going for a drive actually made him go quiet and stop crying / screaming, the past few weeks however that has totally changed and again I have another boy who hates the car. I basically put up with the screaming, we tend not to go further than 20 mins in the car anyway. There is no harm in the baby have a cry like that, it is better than him being held by someone or not in a baby car seat at all whilst driving. Perhaps you can find some small set of wind chimes to put on the handle, they will play as the car moves. Also getting him use to his sear at home is also a very good idea. Good luck!
