Hey Ladies

It's almost time for me to install my infant baby seat in the car, but I'm unsure as to the correct poisition in the back of the car.. Is there a standard side of the car or is it down to personal preference??

Where does the rear facing seat go, behind the driver, behind the passenger or in the middle as suggested on some websites??

Wanted to also add that we had our seat checked in US by the police dept or whoever ran that program and the woman (who was an expert - she had installed every kind of carseat in almost every type of car) said it also depends on your car. Technically, you are supposed to put a rear-facing seat in the middle seat, but not every car will allow you to properly install it in that position. We had a Subaru Outback at the time and you could not get it secure in the middle seat because it was too small. Wherever you put it, make sure you put your weight into the seat when fastening the belt/latch so that you can get it as tight as possible and the seat doesn't move more than 1 inch in any direction.

We've put our rear-facing seat for our newborn in the middle of the rear seat to protect from impact best on both sides. I wouldn't put it where you can best view it through the rear view mirror as suggested by shjbelle because it's not as protected. If you want to see your LO you can always buy a mirror to install although with the traffic here something like that could be very distracting and dangerous.

personal preference. If you drive yourself, I suggest behind the passenger seat as you can see the baby easily with the mirror.
