My dd has recently become really upset that Daddy is away so much and we have been having daily tears about missing Daddy. This is not a new thing as he has always travelled is it an age thing? she's 3.5years is there anything that makes it easier?

I've been saying that "Dad is in the office". DH is in fact scheduled to return tonight so when DS started to whine about it this afternoon, I casually said "Dad will be getting on a plane right after you go to sleep, and you will see him in the morning..." and he got quite wide-eyed. Before bursting into another round of hysterics.... (edited to add that DS is nearly 3 yrs old) edited by Apricot on 10/04/2011

It must be difficult for them to understand. When it happens, I don't dwell on it and just say "daddy's gone to work"... it's a bit harder when we're doing holiday stints in the UK, but DD has understood that we have 2 houses and that Dh works in Dubai even when we're in the UK. I also find it important to use video-calling when we're apart for more than a few days - keeping in touch visually on a daily basis reassures the children (and me) and DH loves it too.
