Morning DC,
From what I see on the forum, you seem to be quite an expert on temperature charting etc :)
I have a question please - I have been charting on and off (I know you're supposed to be consistent but its not always possible). Anyway, the last few mornings I have been charting and its higher than it normally is (and is towards the end of my cycle). This morning however Im really not sure - I woke about 1.5 hours before I would normally wake up and took my temp and it came to 36.30 but when I took it 1.5 hours later, which is at the time I would normally take it, it was 36.81. I know you're supposed to take it at the same time every day but I wasnt sure if I would be up and about in the meantime (which I wasnt - I went back to sleep). You're supposed to take it after 4 consecutive hours of sleep as far as I know and although I literally didnt move (apart from taking the thermometre from the night table) and went back to sleep, there is a huge difference in 36.30 and 36.81!
What do you think? Thanks so much in advance!

I read a lot and fumble my way along, is all! :D OK, so did you confirm ovulation via the thermal shift as well as the monitor? And when you say your luteal phase is 12/13/14 days long, can you pinpoint it? A woman's luteal phase normally stays the same, only varying by a day at the most, so maybe your temperatures have been misleading? So 36.81 is the highest it's ever been in your luteal phase, right? I'd take it again tomorrow - at your normal time - and if it's still as high, maybe do one of the early-detection HPTs. When I got my BFP with DS my highest temp in my luteal phase had been 36.79 and on the day I tested it shot up to 36.99.

Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii DC, Thanks so much for coming back to me and yes, you are the expert :) . I literally was very conscious of not moving around and was tired so went back to sleep but there was a huge difference in the 2 temps with just 1.5 hours difference...and jumped from 36.30 - 36.81..... 1. What cycle day are you on: On day 22, which I know is very early but I ovulated very early this month at days 9-10 according to the CBFM. I ususally dont ovulate til 13-14 (ish) but was early this month. 2. How long is your luteal phase? Generally between 12 / 13 / 14 days 3. What's your normal temperature in your follicular phase and your luteal phase? Follicular never generally goes above 36.35 and in Lutheal generally from 36.60 - 36.80 4. Did you confirm ovulation and if so, on what day? Ov confirmed by CBFM at days 9 - 10 5. What was your temp yesterday when you took it at normal time? My temp the last 3 days has been between 36.70 - 36.75 which is the highest its ever reached during lutheal phase before the dip towards the end. I know Im clutching at straws here but its never been so high so late in my lutheal phase but would never dip so low so quickly. It generally drops to about 36.45 (ish) before going really low just before my period arrives.... Now looking at my cycle I know Im only on cd22 but Im 12DPO... Anyway, any thoughts? Tnx sooooo much!

Eeeeek - expert?! I'm not so sure about that but thanks for the compliment :D. A few questions for you; 1. What cycle day are you on? 2. How long is your luteal phase? 3. What's your normal temperature in your follicular phase and your luteal phase? 4. Did you confirm ovulation and if so, on what day? 5. What was your temp yesterday when you took it at normal time? As far as I'm aware your temperature is meant to be slightly lower overnight, with the lowest point being just before you wake up. So it would make sense that it'd be slightly lower if you woke up earlier than normal. The problem with the second temp is the waking up in between, as you don't know how much of an impact that waking up would have had on the temp. I'd say not much, given that you just rolled over and picked up the thermometer and we all move about in sleep anyway (well, apart from my DH after the rugby!) so I doubt it'd have had much more of an effect than normal sleep movements would. Let me know the answers to the questions and we'll go from there.
