Motilium during Breastfeeding

5 months post partum and my period has returned...with a vengeance :/: I immediately noticed a drop in my milk supply, DD feeding for longer periods, and also wanting to feed more often! I've read that the week before the arrival of your period and during, the composition of your milk might change and so will your supply!?

Has anybody taken Motilium to maintain supply during this time and how quickly does it take effect?

TIA

Speaking of not telling you things, when I had my twins at City a few months ago, they sent me home with a gigantic bottle of motillium. I put it away in the cupboard thinking, "I don't have any gastro problems, why did they give me this?" It was only after I wanted to increase my milk supply and I went out and bought a bunch of the stuff did I realize it was the same thing they had given me iwhen I left the hospital!

I think your LO will also notice a change in flavour too. Why not give both Motilium and fenugreek a try together? Can't hurt. And as LD says, offer as required and your supply will sort it out. Thanks Meals! Cranky is an understatement, but explains a lot :\: Why does nobody tell you these things? ;)

Thanks LD! I kinda knew something was "up" when all of a sudden she started doing longer feeds and more often! I have Fenugreek and have taken it before, but was recommended Motilium during this time, possibly as it kicks in faster and you get results quicker?!

I've taken Motilium to boost supply when pumping for DD and found that my supply was boosted within 48 hours of taking it. That said, it could sometimes take up to 4 to 6 weeks, as per Dr. Jack Newman's website (BF Guru). Here's some info on using Motilium (Domperidone): http://www.drjacknewman.com/help/Domperidone%20Getting%20Started.asp You can also try taking Fenugreek tablets to increase supply, the effects of which should happen almost straightaway. That all said, I managed to BF DD for two years even after my period returned with no supplementation. Like you said, supply tends to drop a little during periods, but I managed to boost it by feeding on demand (day and night) until it bounced right back up again. However, we co slept, so the night feedings were much easier. But really it's just a simple case of demand and supply - the more they ask for it, the more our bodies will make. HTH
