I have been staying in dubai for the last 8 months. Me and my husband moved here because he was reassigned by his company. We have a 2 year old baby boy and ever since we came here i noticed he was always scratching his nose and always had a runny nose. He had difficulty sleeping and would always cry at night (tears mucus and all).

at first we just shrugged it off thinking it was just the common cold. but after a month he was still having the same problem so we brought him to a doctor, who diagnosed him with allergic rhinitis.

He gave us some antihistamine for him which helped little but i am concerned of making him immune to the drug or worst dependent.

My question is, does anyone know any alternative cure for allergic rhinitis and where i can find them here in dubai???

thanks in advance for the help!

The fungicidal elements and various bacteria inside the AC systems are a big concern here in Dubai. Most of the people here in the GCC are still unaware of the health hazards of bad maintenance/cleaning of their AC systems. This is an obvious lack of information. The simple cleaning of only the filters and grills is still presented in the GCC as the optimal maintenance, while it is not. There is a new established company in Dubai, having an exclusive technology for deep AC cleaning, degreasing and disinfection, which becomes unavoidable in the context of public health problems, caused by air conditioning systems poorly maintained and cleaned. Major pathologies due to dirty AC systems are: Legionella, fungus, allergies (dry throat, headache, ocular symptoms, difficulty in breathing, whistling, congestion of the sinus, sneezing, etc.....) This new established company is Healthy AC Services. You can check their FB page at: @HealthyAcServices.Dubai

I have a history of asthma and when I came to Dubai it seems to have been aggravated :( I've been using air purifier as this seems to really help. I also get my mattress cleaned at least 4x a year as it helps me sleep better. The mattress contains million of dust mites causing allergies and asthma. I tend to get eczema too from time to time hence this is the reason why I've now become a neat freak! I get my sofas cleaned as well or at least deep vacuumed from time to time as well as my curtains (dirt tends to get trapped on them coming from the AC) and of course get my AC cleaned done at least once a year. I've used a company called The Healthy Home on Toll Free 80072648493, I would highly recommend them, I've used their service before for the cleaning of my mattress and soft furnishings, too and I was impressed as they seem to know what their doing. They even explained to me where these dust mites come from! As we live in Dubai and with the constant use of AC and with the humidity as well, these all tends to aggravate dust mites problem thereby causing allergies to us especially the kids.

I also suffer from the same and have done for about 20+ years. I find an air purifier in every room works well. Try to dry your bed clothes in a tumble dryer as the dust from outside collects on the bedding whilst drying. Avoid dairy products as these just make the mucous thicker. You will need to speak to a specialist to see which substitutes you can use IE broccoli etc is packed with calcium. Daily sinus wash before sinus spray also does wonders even if you dont use medication the wash flushes out the mucous. Its called Tonimer baby available from all chemists.

I think you would benefit more by preventing the problem from the source. Try starting with with not only cleaning but disinfecting your (and your children's) room. because they stay here for long periods of time, what what may seem clean to us is not really clean microscopically. dust mites and its excrement is one of the most potent allergens around and its very common here in dubai. good luck and good health!

My question is, does anyone know any alternative cure for allergic rhinitis and where i can find them here in dubai??? Yes - tapeworms. Or any kind of worms, really. I'm sure one of the local stray dogs will oblige! (Joking aside, most allergies are caused my IgE antibodies (found on mast cells), which are supposed to be used to attack nematode/trematode worms. Since we don't get worms now, they are bored and now causing mischief) On a more serious note, I get terrible allergic rhinitis/conjunctivitis/eczema. The first step is to reduce the level of inflammation in the body by reducing or eliminating sugars, refined carbs, processed foods and too much omega-6 (seed oils). Second step is to try and work out what's triggering the allergy (for me dust, some pollen, some household cleaners, dairy, wheat, all very common allergies) - get a IgE and IgG test. Third step is medication - for my nose I use an antihistamine steroid spray which works great (Nasonex, you can buy it in the pharmacy) and for my eyes I use a combination of Mast Cell Stabilisers and antihistamine drops (avoid steroidal eye drops) At the end of the day, all you can do is 1)identify and limit exposure to the allergen 2) reduce inflammation in the body as much as possible and 3) medicate the symptoms. Sucks but true
