argh! I wrote a lovely long post but lost it. I read "potty training in a week" and followed it... ha ha ha ha ha ha ha DD took 16 months to be fully potty-trained. Slightly less catchy for a title: "Potty train your child in as long as it takes them to be developmentally ready!" Anyhow, 3 things I learnt: - if they're not enthused or happy doing what you ask, ease off a bit. It's not failure, it's a tactical retreat. - don't expect miracles (regardless of what Gina Ford et al may suggest). It'll be small steps - they have never had to worry about how often they go, when they go, or where they go (or when and where NOT to go!)... and have to learn it all. Be prepared for loads of wees, accidents and ups and downs. - don't stress, get upset or angry/frustrated. It's not a case of you or your son not doing it properly and doesn't reflect badly on either of you. However, your son will mirror your feelings in his progress - if you are happy and enthusiastic, he will be... if you are frustrated at him, he will dig his heels in.

Potty training in one week by Gina Ford. The book is simple and step-by-step :) If you can't find it, let me know :D One amazing lady from EW gave it to me and I think it is the perfect help for someone like me that have tried and failed 3 time already :) oo, and 3 1/2 is not that old for potty training, so don't stress yourself. I'm training my DS and one thing I have to tell you for sure - you need lots of patience :) Follow his lead and everything will be ok :D I know how you feel, but.... when it's done you'll forget all and you will not have to do it again. edited by mpp_jl on 18/07/2011

My DS is almost 3 1/2. I know I know I hate that he's that old and not potty trained. Slightly criticized from some family for it that's for sure. We have had some challenges the last year that delayed it... moving homes, new baby, surgery for DS and trip at Christmas. I've been trying to train him but its almost like he doesn't realize when he's about to pee yet. And I'm now meeting it with his stubborness and fighting with me over it. Help please. Advice, tips anything.
